Big W's surprise massive sale has sent shoppers into a frenzy, with many sharing their hauls on social media.
Eagle-eyed customers have taken to Facebook to report the department store's unexpected markdown sale at their local stores.
The sale includes discounts of up to 90 per cent off across a range of kids’, women's, and men's clothing, with many items selling for only $3. (What a steal, right?)
While we are not certain when the sale actually started, posts pointing out the discounts began popping up on Monday, March 7.
“Big w is definitely the place to get bargains at the moment! Was told by staff 99% of clothing sale is down to $3 each,” one shopper posted on the Markdown Addicts Australia Facebook group along with the receipt of her purchase, showing how she only spent $160.30 for 28 items and saving a whopping $491.45 in total.

The post left Facebook users stunned, with many asking if the sale is effective for Big W stores nationwide.
While the original poster did not reply to the inquiry, another shopper said that she speculated that it might be the case as her local store in Gungahlin, Canberra was also selling a variety of items for only $3.
Another inquired: “Which store though? Not all in Qld have it.”
To which the shopper replied, writing: “I’m in NSW. But I was told by staff that all stores should have it as long as they have the stock.”
Another eagle-eyed shopper also shared that her local store in Capalaba, Queensland was also holding a big sale.

“Ladies and gents shoes marked down to $3 at Big W. Definitely, the place to be for bargains today,” she wrote along with a photo of the women’s and men’s footwear items in question.
The post prompted other members to ask her whether the store still had stocks of footwear in various sizes.
One woman asked: “Don't think the red-black were marked down? Are they new season stock?”
To which the shopper replied with: “I wasn’t sure at first too but the tag definitely had Gaze Basketball $3 save $36. Only a few select sizes left was probably why.”
Apparently, the Capalaba store was not the only store that was having its shelves emptied.
One mum said that her local store at Jesmond “did not have enough left”, claiming that the kids’ wear was flying off the shelves.
In her post, the mum revealed that the items that have yellow tags can still be scanned for $3 despite having price tags indicating that they are capped at $5 to $7.

Another mum opposed the claim, however, saying that you need to get the items scanned to check their prices.
She wrote: “These designs scanning $5 at Big W, WA. They aren’t marked, scan to check prices."
Meanwhile, one mum claimed that the staff at her local Big W store in Miranda politely told her that they are letting their customers "take what they want first" before marking the $35 kids' wear items with a marked down price tag of $3.
She wrote: "I was standing there as they started to mark these down $35 down to $3 each!"
"The staff said they were going to sticker them soon but for people to take what they want first. So stunning I got for 5 of my friend's kids."
I guess it's safe to say that the best way to know if the items that weren't tagged with the marked down prices are on sale is to ask the staff members.
While it is not yet confirmed whether Big W is holding a seasonal clear out, a number of shoppers suspected that this might be the case…
"Looking at other posts, seems Big W are having their seasonal clear out," one customer wrote along with a photo of her footwear haul.

For those who are excited about the sale, one shopper gave a piece of advice, writing: “They do this to run out the old season clothing. There are codes on the tags that indicate which season they are from, so identify the tags first for summer items for discounts.”
The SDC team has done some more digging on the sale and we found out that seasonal clearouts like this are usually unannounced so there’s no way of knowing about them unless you ask staff members in your local store about the upcoming dates of their sales.
