Beware Stevia Packaging
Hi All,
in my study of health and nutrition stevia has been identified as a viable sugar substitute. I recently bought a product from the supermarket without checking the labelling. When I got home I read the contents. Steve’s content 1%! Now this isn’t surprising because it is usually packaged that way. What was of concern was the fillers used to bulk up the product. Primarily maltodextrose was used. This is a refined complex carbohydrate. The body transforms it it into glycogen, which is glucose. So the product has the same consequences as sugar.
Woolworths gave me a refund without question and said the responsibility of the packaging was that of the manufacturer. The container gad the word “Stevia” in large font. What it should have read was “ Refined Complex Carbohydrate with Stevia (1%) added”. Also a warning label that it could be injurious to your health and diabetics beware.
ALWAYS CHECK THE LABELD
