Beloved Sydney fast-food restaurant shuts its doors

It's a tough time for hospitality businesses everywhere, with many small business owners struggling due to the cost-of-living crisis, rent prices increasing, and other economic troubles.

This time, Sydney's fast-food lovers were hit with bittersweet news as Burger Head, one of the city's cult favourites, has closed its doors for the last time.

This burger hotspot in Penrith, which had become favoured among locals over the past seven years, has bid an emotional farewell to its patrons.

'That’s all folks,' they wrote.

This news follows last month’s Instagram post by the founders, where they dropped the gutting line, 'And just like that, all good things must come to an end'.

'The past seven years have been nothing shy of an incredible journey of ups, downs and everything in between, but unfortunately, we’ve decided to hang up the apron.'

The restaurant, which was established in 2017 by friends Joshua Deluca, Timothy Rosenstrauss, and Richard Borg, quickly expanded into a chain with their mouth-watering burgers being served in Blacktown, Casula, and Botany.

However, it appears that a combination of financial woes during a rapid expansion post-COVID-19 has led to this unfortunate end for this local eatery.

Having already shut down their branches at Blacktown and Casula, the remaining at Botany and Penrith served their much-loved patties for the last time on Sunday.

However, it's not all doom and gloom for the fans of this cherished spot.

'We've been touched by the outpouring of support from everyone but I want to make it clear…', they said in a post on social media.

'This ain't the end of Burger Head.'

In a 'major pivot' for the company, Burger Head's presence in the city's food scene will continue exclusively through food truck catering events.

'From the Melbourne F1 all the way down to a 21st at home or a corporate gig, you can book the truck and have it set your way,' the owners said.

The restaurant also revealed that they are exploring bringing back burger boxes, barbecue packs, and limited drops.

They are also looking into supplying burger ingredients to other venues—this includes their very own BH Sauce.

When asked about the possibility of opening another physical restaurant soon, the founders said: ‘Never say never.’

However, they added: 'But definitely not on the radar for a long time.'

'We’re happy with the trucks for the time being!'

It's disheartening to see beloved spots facing challenges. Hopefully, the owners and staff find new opportunities, and the Sydney food scene continues to thrive.

On a different note, if you have any recommendations for a good brunch near me, I'd appreciate the insight. Always on the lookout for a new spot to support!
