Battle of the Homebrand Beef Sausages: Woolies vs. ALDI vs. Coles vs. IGA

Have you ever looked at your grocery shopping list before a summer BBQ and wondered where you should pick up supplies? Today, with the help of a member, we’ve put supermarket sausages to the test.

Which came out on top as the mightiest snag of all? Let’s find out.

But first, let’s meet today’s product reviewer, Frank!

Meet Francis (Frank):

Nearly 70. Born in Morwell, Victoria. Lived in Paris, WA, SA, and TAS, and am now living in QLD. Worked on Hayman Island for three years. I like travelling; my favourite place is the desert (or places like Tibooburra and Camerons Corner). I like camping/caravanning and seeing Australia. I've been to most Northern, Southern, and Eastern points of Australia. I am planning to do the Centre of Australia next year and hopefully the most Western point.

The first thing I did was weigh one of each brand of the sausages I was reviewing.

Why does it have to be just between these 4? (Woolies vs. ALDI vs. Coles vs. IGA)
Butcher I get meat from is cheaper and tastier than what Woolies, ALDI, Coles, IGA, have to offer.

Sorry 😞 guy’s, you could try and sell me any kind of sausage until the cows come home, but for my taste 👅 buds, Coles home brand sausage’s are my favourite, it has no lumpy gristle and it has a very unique taste. Love them at the bbq’s……Rick62

Sorry, 72g
Sausages..... I call them mystery bundles of who knows what.....Sweeping from the butcher floor, ears, snouts, tailings from the butcher of the meat, meat extenders, bread crumbs and other exotic additives (look at Coles label) ... the price per Kg is what counts..... I have a fixed price per Kg of $11.99/Kg... for real meat that is.....

Slape & Sons are an Adelaide company and our local Foodland here sell them. I have found them to be one of the best but Barossa Fine Foods also do gourmet sausages. They are expensive but have a big variety.

Next time I cook some I will put them through Frank's test!

I think Frank was looking at major supermarkets..it would take him forever to test sausages from all sausage makers. Plus probably most people do the majority of their shopping at the bigger supermarkets. Personally being on a farm we can do our own kills for meat. Have a freezer full currently of lamb and goat meat..

Have never tasted Goat meat, is it as nice as lamb or whatever else on the farm. How about the taste and the texture ?....you know all of the usual comparisons. Look forward to hearing your reply @goatwhisperer.
