Roll clouds are long tube-like clouds which are rare across most of the world. They are detached from other cloud features, for example they are not part of a thunderstorm. They form within a vertical slab of air when wind shear across a horizontal boundary leads to uplift and cloud formation. The ABC’s website has more information about roll clouds. Member Ekim was fortunate to see them and capture such an interesting photo. Well done.
