Backyard incinerator
Nearly every backyard had them right up to the 90's. They were great before recycling
came into vogue. I used to give my newspapers to the local butchers and fish and chop shops. However, they did have some disadvantages in that they dropped hot coals/embers around the perimeter. My father, a young man in his fifties, a diabetic with no feeling in his feet, trod on one of these embers and as a result of it got gangrene in his foot. Over the next few months he gradually lost his foot, then his leg and finally his life.
