Social media can be a platform to share stories, experiences and ideas.
However, some online content creators may have gone too far with the videos and photos they publish online.
Logan Guminski, a 27-year-old online content creator from Ocala, Florida, found herself at the centre of a criminal investigation.
Authorities received an anonymous tip about one of her videos depicting a sexual activity with a dog.
The incident has left the online community reeling and sparked concerns for the welfare of animals and the exploitation of animals for personal gain.
Guminski, who had a social media following of about 15,000 people, often referred to herself as a 'dog mum'.
Yet, she has been accused of animal abuse for her actions.
Upon investigation, The Marion County Sheriff's Office uncovered several photos and videos of her engaged in the act with the 'abused animal'.
The content, which she reportedly sold online, sparked conversations about the ethical boundaries of content creation.
It also highlighted social media's responsibilities in monitoring and preventing said content from being shared.
'During an interview, she advised that she is a 'content creator' who generates sexually explicit photos and videos to sell on the internet,' the Marion County Sheriff's statement read.
'She also admitted to creating and sharing the video with another social media user, who requested it and paid $500 (A$793).'
'Guminski additionally stated that she had been involved in sexual activity with another dog, and the videos of both incidents were still stored on her cell phone,' the statement further said.
Guminski has been arrested and faced charges of sexual activity involving an animal and filming the said activity.
She was released on a $10,000 bond (A$15,883) and is scheduled to appear in court for her hearing on 22 April.
Despite the ongoing investigation, police have not yet taken any animals under their custody.
The police lacked the warrant required to seize the dogs from Guminski's possession.
This sparked further concern among animal rights advocates, who called for immediate action for the pets' safety.
'Unfortunately, this isn't my first case of this nature,' Detective Jordyn Batts from the Marion County Sheriff's Office shared.
'It's always shocking, and it'll never not be shocking, especially when you have to watch the video. I have seen it before, so it's not out of the ordinary, unfortunately.'
As of writing, Guminski's social media account remains active.
While she shared several posts of her with her pets, spectators have raised eyebrows due to their suggestive nature.
This case has shed light on the need for stricter regulations for online content, as well as the importance of reporting any suspected animal abuse.
It should also serve as a reminder that behind curated social media images, there could be hidden realities that must be addressed.
