Australian Native Blue Banded Bee​

This totally unique Australian Native Blue Banded Bee is almost friendly if you are wearing blue clothing. I believe they are stingless. I only became aware of them about twenty years ago and have noticed them in several places in Queensland since then. I hope you enjoy these photos. OOPS Sorry. Thankyou Jaclynn, This particular one was so unthreatened it almost allowed me to touch it. Australia has the most beautiful native bees and the 'blue' bee is well up there.

Beaut shots Hieme. I've taken several shots of them over recent years myself. Yes they are stingless. Native bees are also responsible for pollinating about 30% of Australia's crops as well so they are all very important. I'm doing macro photography for the Museum and sadly these guys have been scarce over the last couple of years. I've seen a few but for some reason they are very flighty and not ready to sit like they used to..Did you know that European Honey Bees can also recognise human faces...I reckon Blue Banded Bees do as well as at times they fly up and stare me in the face, Probably wondering what that big black thing is poking them in the face,,
