New South Wales Police confirmed an alleged incident last week. A NSW Police spokesperson told 9news "He was subsequently arrested and taken to Manly Police Station, where he was charged with use carriage service to menace/harass/offend and stalk/intimidate intend fear physical harm." Slater was granted conditional bail and is due to appear at Waverley Local Court on November 11.

Mr Slater has not released any public comments on his arrest yet.

The former athlete played 74 Tests as part of the Australian cricket team from 1993 to 2001.

After his athletics career, he held prominent positions on TV but was let go last week by Australia's Channel Seven. It was cited that financial pressures led to his departure from the channel.

Earlier this year, the cricket commentator made headlines after he accused Australian Prime Minister, Scott Morrison, of having 'blood on his hands' over the government's two-week travel ban on Australian citizens returning from India during the height of that nation's coronavirus crisis in May.

Mr Slater was in India at the time, commentating for local networks on the Indian Premier League season.
