The festive season is upon us, and it's time to spread joy and love with thoughtful gifts.
But if you're planning to send your presents through the mail, you need to act fast.
Australia Post has set strict deadlines for when parcels and cards need to be dispatched to ensure they reach their destinations, both domestically and internationally, in time for Christmas.
Gary Starr, Australia Post's Executive General Manager, revealed that the company processed a staggering 53 million parcels in November alone.
'Every year, the number gets bigger,' Starr said in an interview.
Today marks the final day to send packages via standard parcel post within Australia.
However, don't fret if you're running a bit late—gifts can still be sent after the cut-off using express post.
'If you want to get something in, get it in by Thursday, 21 December. We will continue to deliver right up to the 24th,' Starr said.
'But we really remind everyone of those dates because we can't guarantee the parcels will arrive by Christmas if they're not in by (today) for parcel post or Thursday for express post.'
If you want your mail delivered on time, here’s a guide to the dates you need to keep in mind:
Domestic Mail
For those sending mail from anywhere within Australia, the final day for parcel post is today, December 18, and the final day for express post is December 21.
As for residents living in Western Australia and the Northern Territory, the cut-off date for standard parcel post has unfortunately passed. However, express post is still available until December 20.
International Mail
If you're planning to send a parcel overseas, the deadline has already passed.
For parcels being sent to China and most of Asia, the deadline was November 30 for standard shipping and December 7 for express shipping.
Furthermore, for major European destinations, parcels should have been dispatched by December 1 for standard shipping and December 8 for express shipping.
As for deliveries to the UK, parcels needed to be sent by December 5 for standard shipping and December 12 for express shipping.
