Aussies gush over Bunnings-themed cake created by a professional baker — “Can I have this as an adult for my birthday?”

Melbourne professional baker Tigga Maccormack has made the rounds on social media after she shared a video on how to design a Bunnings-themed cake.

Sharing her creation on TikTok, the baker admitted that she was surprised that Bunnings-themed birthday cakes were becoming a trend among celebrants.

“At first I was like, ‘Oh my God, is this a thing?’ Then I looked into it and saw they were and was like, ‘This is so cool,’” Tigga said.

Aside from the popular trend, the baker also noted that the retailer had just recently released a party pack, inspiring her to create a "cute little cake" to "celebrate" with them.

Tigga used red and green sponge cakes as the base, explaining: “I used red and green cake, did a semi-naked finish and put the Bunnings logo truck on top which you can get from [the store] and make it yourself – it’s super cute.”

“I just filled the truck up with lollies and had it pouring down the cake, added a Bunnings logo and some bunting.”

The baker then opened Bunnings' $29 kids party pack to decorate the cake.

The pack includes cups, plates, hats, name tags, cutlery, invitations and serviettes.

She said: “The box everything comes in can be turned inside out and into the cake stand. Genius.”

The end product? A head-turning birthday party cake!

The video has gone viral, garnering more than 175,000 views and hundreds of comments from users who are excited over the cake.

One person wrote: “How did I not know this? This is adorable. My dad is completely obsessed with Bunnings.”

"I mean can I have this as an adult for my birthday this month or is that just sad?" another asked.

A third chimed in: "We had a Bunnings theme party in 2020 for my son, i contacted out local Bunnings and they sent some things over. We did the rest, everyone loved it."

Steps to create the Bunnings-themed birthday cake:

  1. Colour your cake mix in the signature Bunnings colours!! Slice your cakes in half to create four layers. Use gel food colouring for best results
  2. Stack your four layers, alternating the colours! You can use any filling of your choice.
  3. Cover your cake in white buttercream, then scrape it back to create a semi-naked effect and showcase your coloured cake layers.
  4. Using a piping bag, pipe your buttercream on top of the cake and down the side of your cake, bringing the piping across the front. Make sure you leave a spot for your hammer logo.
  5. Place your Bunnings lego truck on top of the cake, using the piping on top to secure it.
  6. Using an assortment of lollies fill the back of the truck and place them cascading down your piped buttercream. Lollies can deteriorate in the fridge so we recommend popping them on close to party time.
  7. Print out a picture of the Bunnings hammer logo to use as a template. Roll out a small amount of red and green fondant. Using round cookie cutters cut out a green solid circle and a red ring for the border. Then use the template to cut out your hammer shape. With a paintbrush and a small amount of water,
  8. stick the red ring border and your hammer shapes onto the green circle. Leave for a few minutes to set, then place onto the centre of the cake.
  9. Fold two pieces of red and green paper in half. Cut triangles along the fold to create diamonds. Measure and cut a piece of string. Place each diamond over the string, and secure it in place using glue or double-sided tape. This will create your triangle bunting. Finish off by tying the string onto two straws and poking the ends into your cake.
