Aussies claim new $100 energy rebate, check eligibility now

With the cost of living continuing to rise, every little bit of relief helps—especially when it comes to those dreaded energy bills.

There’s some good news on the horizon: The state government has just announced a fresh energy bill rebate for eligible residents as part of a broader $2.3 billion cost-of-living package revealed in the latest state budget.

The new $100 Power Saving Bonus is a one-off payment to help concession card holders manage their electricity costs.

This initiative, which will cost the government $50 million, is set to roll out in August and will be available through the Victorian Energy Compare website.

Treasurer Jaclyn Symes described the budget as 'responsible', saying it delivers 'support you can feel—at the kitchen table, at the school gate, at the train station.'

For many seniors and concession card holders, this bonus will provide some much-needed breathing room as winter energy bills start to roll in.

Claiming the $100 bonus is straightforward. Eligible Victorians will need to visit the Victorian Energy Compare website when the program opens later this year.

If you hold a concession card, keep an eye out for further announcements and instructions on how to apply.

This isn’t the first time the Victorian government has offered such support.

Previous rounds of the Power Saving Bonus saw households receive up to $250 simply for comparing energy offers.

This move not only put money back in people’s pockets but also encouraged many to switch to better deals.

This round of the Power Saving Bonus is targeted specifically at concession card holders.

If you have a Pensioner Concession Card, Health Care Card, or a Department of Veterans Affairs Gold Card, you’re likely to qualify.

Ensure your details are current, and check the eligibility criteria once the program officially launches.

The $100 Power Saving Bonus comes on top of the federal government’s $150 energy bill rebate, which will kick in from 1 July.

That means some Victorians could see a combined $250 shaved off their power bills this year—welcome news as energy prices remain high.

The energy rebate is just one part of a broader effort to ease cost-of-living pressures on Victorian families and seniors.

The state budget includes free public transport for seniors on weekends, helping them travel more easily and affordably. Around 27,000 additional rebates will support households installing electric heat pumps and solar hot water systems.

Healthcare access will improve, too, with $18 million enabling pharmacists to treat more minor conditions, reducing the need for GP visits.

Families with children will benefit from over $1.3 billion in support, including free kinder and thousands of Get Active Kids vouchers.

The Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund will also expand, providing a boosted $400 to 200,000 eligible students.

Meanwhile, $61 million in stamp duty relief will support buyers of off-the-plan homes for another year.

For many older Australians, especially those on fixed incomes, the rising cost of essentials like electricity, groceries, and transport can be a real worry.

These rebates and bonuses are designed to provide immediate relief, but they also encourage people to shop around for better deals and make energy-efficient upgrades to their homes.

To save on energy bills, it’s worth comparing your options through the Victorian Energy Compare website to see if a better deal is available.

You might also consider using available rebates to upgrade to energy-efficient appliances or hot water systems, which can lead to long-term savings.

Staying informed about new government rebates, bonuses, and support programs can help you maximise your benefits.

In other news, the Australian Government announced a $150 energy rebate to ease cost of living pressures for another six months ahead of the upcoming election.

The move follows criticism of the Prime Minister for failing to deliver on an earlier promise to cut power prices. You can read more about it here.
