Aussie siblings go VIRAL for comparing trolley escalators in the US and Australia – which one do you think is better?

As it turns out, there is quite a huge difference between shopping in the US and shopping here in Australia.

According to two Aussie siblings, the Americans have a rather "strange" method of getting a trolley up an escalator.

The Sheppard siblings, Emma and George, both of whom are members of the top-charting band Sheppard, recently shared their thoughts on a video that has now gone viral on social media.

There, they asked their followers whether Australian trolley escalators are much better than the American ones.

Members, which country's trolley escalator did you think come out on top?

While Australian travellators have a unique design to lock trolleys in place so they don't roll away, department stores in the US have a separate escalator just for shopping carts.

As he sent his trolley up the conveyor in a Target store in the US, George said, "So this is something we don't have in Australia, this is their solution to getting the shopping cart up the escalator."

There is a separate escalator located there in the store that customers can use, which enables them to keep an eye on their purchases and retrieve their cart at the top of the escalator.

On the other hand, Emma who is currently in Australia showed just how easy it is for Aussies to bring their trolleys up the escalator – all we have to do is push it along with us, and it holds its position the entire escalator ride!

"We actually do have something similar in Australia except better," she said.

The siblings posted the video on their official Instagram and TikTok accounts. Because their band has such a large following all over the world, the video got quite a bit of attention on various social media platforms.

Aussies and Americans from all over the internet have engaged in some very spirited debates in the video's comments section.

"Way to overcomplicate things, America!" said one user. A fellow Aussie agreed and added, "Why would you add a whole other escalator when you can just have one grooved one?"

"They never showed the other end of the escalator where you have to pull the trolley off... I've tried them both... On the other hand, Aussie wins hands down…" said a third.

Obviously, the Americans are not going to give up without a fight and without defending their grocery stores.

"The number of times we've been to the city and seen trolleys get stuck at the end of the escalator and people get knocked down…" said one user.

Someone else mentioned that American escalators are more "emergency-friendly" than those in Australia. This is due to the fact that the trolleys do not block the way, which allows people to exit the escalator in the event of an emergency.

What are your thoughts, folks? Are the trolley escalators in our neighbourhood supermarkets still the best and most efficient ones?

Or, do the Americans have a valid argument for why their trolleys need their very own escalator? Leave a comment down below telling us what you think about this!

Why? Surely two times escalators are twice as expensive, or using economy of scale at least one and a half times. Plus, as there are more moving parts surely the opportunity for breakdowns is doubled;).

Australia's is much better and more efficient, taking up less space and costing less with only one escalator...dah!

Our travellators seem to require a larger area than a regular escalator which can have a steeper ascent and descent. If I need to take a trolley up the ramp I try to keep to one side so others can pass if need be but it can be difficult once the wheels lock if you don't get it right.

At least you can use our Aussie "trolley friendly" escalators if you're in a wheelchair and don't want to go all the way to the lift. You certainly can't get a wheelchair on a traditional American style escalator.
