Aussie mum scores $255 worth of meat for just $27 – here’s how YOU can do the same!

We love a bargain as much as the next person, but sometimes it feels like we just can’t catch a break. It seems like every time we go to the supermarket these days, our grocery bill just keeps going up and up.

But every now and then, we come across a story that reminds us why it pays to be savvy when it comes to shopping.

Meat can be quite expensive, especially if you're trying to feed a family of four or more on a budget. The good news is that there are ways to get your hands on quality meat without spending an arm and a leg – as this lucky shopper found out.

An Aussie mum managed to score an absolutely amazing deal on a recent grocery run to Coles. For just $27, she was able to snag $255 worth of meat!

The woman ended up scoring plenty of various meat products, plus three cheese wedges, all for just $27. Here's the complete rundown of what she got on her most recent grocery run:
  • 2 boneless Australian roast pork shoulders
  • 15 Australian lamb cutlets
  • an Australian Angus beef eye fillet
  • Australian chicken thigh cutlets
  • duck breast
  • 4 organic chicken breasts
  • 2 packets of Australian chicken dinosaurs
  • 2 packets of katsu curry breast kebabs
  • an Australian boneless whole chicken
  • 4 Australian honey and soy chicken burgers
  • 3 cheese wedges

Talk about a haul! But how did she do it?

Here's how it all went down: the savvy saver was doing her weekly grocery run when she spotted a staff member beckoning her over to the meat section. She followed him and saw that he was heading towards the markdown meats... which can only mean one thing – major savings!

It's also important to keep in mind that most of these bargain-priced items are nearing their expiration dates, so even though you might save a lot of money, you have to prepare and cook (or freeze) them as soon as possible.

The woman shared her impressive finds on the Facebook group Markdown Addicts Australia, where she received lots of praise from fellow bargain hunters.

In the comments section of her post, one user wrote: ‘I'm always jealous looking at other people's discounts. Lucky you, that's an amazing haul!’

So here you have it, folks! More and more shoppers are getting lucky and finding incredible bargains by just going to the store a few hours before closing.

If you're passing the grocery store on your way home and have a few minutes to spare, you might as well check out their markdowns! Who knows, maybe you can even cut your weekly food costs in half by doing this.

I would love to know when she purchased this.

I think with prices that low , the expiry date had to either be on that day or day after.
Meat will normally have around a 10 day expiry date

My daughter dropped past the other day to give me flowers and gave me a 2litre bottle of milk that had an expiry date of the next day. She paid 85c. She had picked up 2 to make ricecream .

I opened it and my other daughter said it's not fresh that it didn't smell completely off but didn't smell or taste right. I three it out.

If those items had at least a fee days expiry then good on her but if it was only a day then hope her family didn't get sick

At least she inly took one or two of each

I do not buy OOD Milk or Chicken for Human consumption (Cooked Chicken is OK. the heat will kill most bacteria but you still need to be cautios) So uncooked chicken for my couple of dogs,

Yesterday, here in Gympie Qld, I was in WOOLWORTHS (Centro) and a shop assistant came out with a trolley load of OOD peppercorn (Gluten Free) Sausage. (450grams) and was marking them down from $9.99 to $3.99. I purchased 6 as I have a freezer nearly 3/4 full (Don't overfill the freezer as cold air must circulate)
The shop Assistant told me that she marks down Meat Products EVERY DAY at 2p,
The Deal was not as good as Aussie Mum's but .. I am not a Mum nor am I in Coles.. and I am not in the same town. (I guess) . She doesn't say which store. Seems different stores different deals.

Previously, I had gone into town to be in Coles (Gympie) hoping to get discounted meats at 8pm just before they close... NOTHING only a refrigerator with OOD goods selling a 75% of the price. NOT A GREAT DEAL The Shop Assistant there told me that they don't mark down as reported.

It always annoys me to see that someone will take most of the discounted meats with never a thought for someone like me a pensioner, who also needs a good bargain. Mind you, I never set foot in a Coles store as I don't like the way they treat their workers or their customers. I know that you have to make the money go further with kids, but today we are all in the same boat. The fact that the due by date has almost been reached means nothing if you intend to freeze stuff. I buy & freeze my meat for the fortnight when I get my pension and also bread so we don't run out. As I buy from Aldi & find their bread exceptional & their general goods are great.
