Aussie fitness influencer puts viral kitchen hack to the test – flop or not?

We all love it when someone comes up with a genius hack that makes life just that bit easier. Usually, the clever idea takes something that can often be a tedious task and speeds it up – exactly what we all need these days, given our hectic lifestyles.
That's probably why a video by a French chef called Casa Tips recently went viral, garnering over 84 million views! Seems like plenty of people could use a hack or two in the kitchen…
The hack he was showing involved a genius way to finely slice onions quickly, with the use of a fork and vegetable peeler.
The method involves putting a fork pointing downwards into the bottom of the onion, holding the vegetable in place and then running the peeler 'back and forth' along the top to create paper-thin slices.
Sounds easy enough – or at least too good to be true – and that's exactly what Australian fitness star Sarah Stevenson thought. So, along with her three-year-old son Fox, they decided to put it to the test.
Uploading a video of their attempt, Sarah shows how, unfortunately, it didn't seem to work out the way she had hoped.
She failed on her very first attempt and could not get the paper-thin slices she was aiming for. Sarah took to Instagram to share with followers: 'I'm very sceptical. I feel like we (her and son) just don't have a big enough peeler.'
'Moment of truth, are you ready?' she asked her son. She continued using the peeler to try to get thin onion slices, but to her disappointment, all that came out were crumbled layers of onion and onion skin.
'Come on; this can't be real. I'm gonna give this one a no from us.'
She posted the video to her Instagram account, @sarahs_day, and her followers had mixed opinions on the hack.
'Neither of you was doing it the correct way,' one person pointed out in the comments.
'Mine worked perfectly! It was such a game-changer for me. Maybe it's your peeler?' another said.
'I love this idea! Best for my children instead of using knives which I'm really fearful! Thank you so much,' another user praised the hack.
'This demonstration is so good. I never had onion slices like this before!' commented a fourth user.
Some insisted it must be Sarah's technique that was at fault and offered tips on what she should have done differently. Others agreed that the hack was just not living up to the hype.
So, SDC members – don't be disappointed if you can't get this hack to work either! Life hacks may have some gems in the mix, but they can't all be winners.
In fact, sometimes it pays to slow down and enjoy the process - even if it's something as mundane as slicing onions! Taking your time is far better for you and for the quality of your end product as well.
Good luck with your kitchen endeavours! If you have more tips to share with the rest of us, please feel free to do so in the comments.
