Aussie dad shares his "free childcare" parenting hack using Woolies trolleys: "The kids are loving it"

You probably already knew this, but taking your grandkids grocery shopping with you can be a great learning experience for them.

Some experts say it is one of the most effective ways to discourage picky eating and promote a more adventurous approach to food! Plus, we can always use a pair of little helping hands in the supermarket, right?

But even though it’s to everyone's advantage for the young ones to come along, we have to be honest and say that they can be a little bit of a bother at times (snack aisle tantrum, anyone?).

One father came up with a very tongue-in-cheek parenting "hack" to combat this which has certainly gotten fellow parents on social media talking!

Sharing on TikTok, one Aussie dad revealed his parenting tip for using a Woolies trolley to provide "free childcare" whenever he goes grocery shopping with his kids in the supermarket.

In the video, the man can be seen putting his young children into a shopping cart in the car park of a Woolworths in Western Australia.

After that, he pushes it into the trolley bay with other trolleys, which effectively creates a little space inside the cart for children to sit down.

But don't worry, folks – the children can be heard giggling loudly throughout the entirety of the clip.

"Okay, guys, I’ve got to go shopping with the two little terrors. That's very hard," he said in the TikTok video. "Going to use this free childcare hack. Get them here, push them on in, in they go!"

"You're sweet. See you guys! I'm going to do some shopping," he said jokingly, as he pretended to leave his kids while walking towards the supermarket entrance.

Tens of thousands of users on TikTok found the video to be hilarious, and many of them commented that they might give the parenting "hack" a try themselves. They also mentioned that the children appeared to have enjoyed themselves (win, win ;)).

"The kids are loving it," one mum wrote in the comments, while another added, "Love it. So do the kids!"

Other parents expressed their admiration for the wonderful video and complimented the father on the way he interacted with his children. "This is gold," wrote one dad.

Some users, however, pointed out that the dad was fortunate to receive such a warm reception, with one suggesting that things might have been 'different' if the clip had been posted by a mum.

I loved taking my littlies shopping with me.
They knew they would not get what they saw, so there was no point crying over anything.
They helped me work out our list of niceties and necessities. It was a wonderful learning experience for them, and they loved looking for specials. It was always fun.

Possibly got away with this as Dad is 'the enforcer' at home. May have been as suggested, different with Mum.

I remember reading a lighthearted piece some time ago where 2 children are taken shopping with Mum. The youngest is making a noise, playing up & demands something from the shelf. Mum says no causing the youngster to complain more prompting the eldest child to say, 'keep quiet. She just said yes didn't she.'

Why didn't I think of this? Now I needed something similar for hubby as I only ever took him shopping for his carrying capacity, not his proclivity for sneaking items into the trolley!;)
My wife doesn't like to go shopping with me when l go to Bunnings. She takes a seat & waits for my return, however long that is.
