Aussie dad scores $330 worth of meat and seafood for $47 and reveals the secret to HEAVILY MARKED-DOWN food items

If you’re looking for incredible ways to save hundreds of dollars on groceries, you can count on us here at the SDC for an endless supply of easy, money-saving tips for you. Hopping on our list of savvy, bargain hunters is an Aussie dad who was able to bag $330 worth of meat and seafood for $47 – and here’s how you can do it too!

Sharing his impressive grocery haul (for those who don’t know, a ‘haul’ is what the younger generations are calling a good ‘score’ during shopping) on a popular Facebook group, Markdown Addicts Australia, the man showed off his unbelievably cheap purchases and revealed the exact time he dropped by his local supermarket to nab the heavily discounted food items.

The shopper detailed that his freezer is now packed with the cheap meat and seafood that he was able to pick up during his grocery run at Coles between 8:30 PM and 8:45 PM.

He managed to get his hands on a total of 23 different types of meat and fish, including eye fillets that retailed for $3, lamb cutlets priced at $2.50 each, whole chickens for less than $3, and a pack of eight chicken legs for $1.20. Not too shabby, eh?

“My best haul ever was very lucky tonight – $332.81 for $47.61. The freezer is full,” he captioned his Facebook post which immediately caught the attention of hundreds.

Dozens of users rushed to the comments section of his post to express their amazement, deeming his grocery purchases as a 'great score'.

“Great haul. Our local Coles doesn’t seem to reduce the price by much. Wishing they would though,” one person said.

“It could [be as a result of] the time you go [grocery shopping]. They do slash the prices of items near the expiry date by 80 to 90% but this usually happens after 6 PM. If you go after 6 PM and see that the product is expiring that day, you can ask them to mark it down,” another commented.

“Such a good score!!!!” one mum exclaimed to which the Aussie dad replied: “I’ve never experienced anything like this before… Sometimes you just get lucky,”

“Sometimes I go [to the grocery] and won’t find anything but patience and persistence is key.”' he continued.

“The markdown gods were on your side!” a fourth teased.

And if you can’t get enough money-saving hacks on discounted grocery items, a Woolworths shopper also previously divulged the simple trick to scoring cuts of lamb for $8 per kilogram.

Good luck to him. I worry that people who do this a lot and have a freezer full are never going to eat it all before it goes off. You can only eat so much chicken before you sicken yourself.

the lady on the vidio clip had some good webs to put on your phone to compare from woolies and coles

Taking every single marked down item for yourself is plain greed. Take what you need and let others have some as well.

With 13 kids and a husband I wished I could find this. When I see markdowns they are usually expiring that day or the next and I don't want to chance food poisoning.
If you freeze before the useby date you are fine, but don't keep them very long, it will give you a good couple of weeks. A lot of the manufacturers are now letting you know on the packets it their produce is suitable for freezing and other just give instruction how to cook fresh or if frozen.
