Attention: You might be eligible for cashback from ahm for COVID policy

In a move that's sure to bring a smile to many faces, ahm health insurance members could see a welcome boost to their bank accounts as part of a COVID cashback commitment.

If you've been holding a hospital and/or extras policy with ahm as of 30 September, you might just be in for a $100 refund—no action required!

This initiative is part of a broader commitment by ahm and its parent company, Medibank.

‘Ahm and Medibank made a commitment to return any COVID-19 claims savings back to members,’ the health insurance company said.

Milosh Milisavljevic, Medibank's Chief Customer Officer, has been clear on the company's stance: profiting from the pandemic is not on their agenda.

'The cash give back is the next phase in our support package,' the company announced.

‘Since the start of the pandemic, our $1.46 billion financial support package has included the pause of premium increases, free days of cover and other member support options.’

For eligible customers, the refund is automatically deposited into the account used to pay premiums. And for those without bank details, a cheque will be mailed out to you.

However, it's important to note that the cashback commitment excludes ambulance only, overseas visitors cover, overseas workers cover, and overseas student health cover.

Customers can expect to receive their cashback by the end of October.

But that's not all—Medibank has also announced that it will be returning a total of $215 million to its customers.

Depending on your level of cover, you could receive anywhere from $50 to $360.

‘On average, it will be about $55 for extras-only policies and about $165 for hospital and extras policies,’ Medibank said.

These rebates are set to hit bank accounts by the end of September 2024.

For ahm customers, they will also benefit from the rollover of unclaimed extras annual limits.

If you haven't used up your extras in the 2023-2024 financial year, they will carry over to the 2024-2025 financial year, giving you more flexibility and value from your policy.

This rollover, however, won't apply to unused extras from the 2022-2023 financial year, optical cover, or services with rolling limits, such as post-natal services.

To be eligible for these rebates and the limits rollover schemes, you must have been a customer of either Medibank or Ahm before 1 July 2024.

I'm with AHM for an extras only for dental and optical, and they have been consistent with pausing premium rises and also a few cashbacks. They've also been rolling over unused funds, more so than any other health insurance provider I've been with.

I'm with AHM also for dental and optical and for quite a few years found them to be fairly good. I have Black 60 cover. Don't have any hospital cover and haven't for years as it is way too expensive.
