Attention, chocolate lovers! Two new Malteser flavours are about to debut in Australia

When it comes to treats, it doesn't get much better than chocolate.

Luckily, those with a sweet tooth are in for a real treat as Maltesers are about to hit shelves with two incredibly decadent new flavours – and you can try them in Australia first!

It's official – Maltesers have taken the dessert game to a whole new level. The beloved chocolate brand has announced the launch of two new flavours: the world-first Black Forest Gateau and Tiramisu varieties.

Starting sometime this May and running through July, you'll find these tempting treats adorning supermarket shelves across the country.

The Dark Chocolate Black Forest Gateau Maltesers will feature a crispy malt centre enveloped in rich dark chocolate with hints of cherry and sponge cake, bringing to mind the classic dessert we all know and love.

On the other hand, if you're a coffee enthusiast, you'll be thrilled to get your hands on the Tiramisu Maltesers. This Italian-inspired creation encases Maltesers' iconic crunchy centre with a velvety milk chocolate layer infused with notes of cappuccino and whipped cream. Talk about a delightful pick-me-up!

The good news doesn't stop there. These delectable flavours will be launched exclusively at Woolworths sometime this month, so you can easily grab a bag or two during your regular shopping trip. Then, from July onwards, all major retailers across Australia will stock these irresistible bites.

As of writing, however, major supermarkets have yet to stock these new flavours on their shelves.

But the excitement for these new flavours hasn't gone unnoticed. Eager fans shared their predictions on what the new Malteser variants could be when the brand teased them on social media prior to the official launch.

‘Peanut butter and jelly! Let's gooooooooo!’ One person guessed.

Another replied: ‘Chocolate brownie?’

A few eagle-eyed followers correctly predicted that Tiramisu would soon tantalise their taste buds.

One witty individual joked, ‘Better send me a sample so I can let you know whether it's a winner’. We can’t help but agree; we'd love to taste-test these delightful new flavours for ourselves!

Drew Davis, Mars Wrigley’s Portfolio Director, said that the new products marked an ‘exciting time’ for the brand.

‘The new range delivers a top-notch, premium dessert experience in a simple bitesize format. It’s the first time we’ve created a product like this, and we’re anticipating consumers to really enjoy what I believe feels like an indulgent experience,’ he told reporters.

Mr Davis continued: ‘Maltesers keeps going from strength to strength. The debut of Maltesers Desserts marks an exciting time for us as a brand as we continue to grow our consumer-led innovation within our bitesize portfolio.’

This comes after it was announced that popular chocolate bars from the Mars Wrigley brand are getting a ‘makeover’.

Last month, the confectionery company announced that Mars Bar, Snickers, and Milky Way will now be wrapped in recyclable and paper-based packaging. Australia is leading the major change, being the first market in the world to experience the upgrade.

According to reports, the new packaging is a move by the manufacturer, Mars Wrigley Australia, to cut more than 360 tonnes of plastic from its supply chain – which is said to stretch from Melbourne to London and back.

All chocolate bars produced by the company will aim to be recyclable, reusable, or compostable by 2025. You can read more details about this story here.

Social media followers of the manufacturer expressed their delight over the new flavours online.

‘Can’t wait to try these!’ One stated.

‘Oh dear,’ another replied.

No, I won't be trying these any time soon.

Chocolate and lollies have disappeared off my shopping list as un-necessary indulgences.

All these companies keep pumping out "new and exciting" flavours or mixtures when surely they should be curbing their businesses and helping to reduce costs for their customers. ;)
