In a harrowing incident that has left a Perth community shaken, an 89-year-old grandfather was violently dragged from his car in his driveway.

At the same time, his terrified wife could do nothing but watch the ordeal unfold.

The shocking event, which was captured on camera, has sparked a conversation about the safety of seniors and the brazen nature of crime in quiet neighbourhoods.

Ken, the elderly victim, had just returned home from a pleasant lunch with his wife when their sense of security was shattered.

At approximately 2:35 pm on Tuesday, a 32-year-old stranger approached them in their Armadale driveway with ill intent.

The assailant allegedly yanked Ken from his vehicle, a Mercedes, and shoved him to the ground with such force that the grandfather sustained a bruised hip and grazed wrist.

'I fought with him there, opened the door three or four times to try and get him out, but my strength of trying to move someone half my age was pretty hard,' Ken recounted.

The physical altercation was not only a traumatic experience for Ken but also for his wife, who is now too frightened to sleep in their home.

About 10 minutes prior, another confrontation took place on Dawson Street in Armadale, where the same assailant allegedly stole a mobile phone from a man in his 70s after a verbal altercation.

Thankfully, the police were swift in their response.

The stolen car was located, and the suspect was arrested in Gosnells the following day.

Ken expressed a sense of relief upon hearing the news of the arrest.

'I think he's a first starter, so I'm quite pleased that he's been caught and taken away for a little bit of time,' he said.

The 32-year-old man from Saint James has been charged with a slew of offences, including one count of aggravated robbery, one count of stealing a motor vehicle, one count of stealing, and one count of attempted home burglary with intent.

He was scheduled to appear before the Armadale Magistrates Court on Thursday.
