Are your favourite stores open this October long weekend? Trading hours for ALDI, Coles, Woolworths, and more revealed!

With an extra day off thanks to the Labour Day holiday in some states, as well as the Australian Football League (AFL) and National Rugby League (NRL) grand finals, the October long weekend is something to look forward to.

The holiday also fell after the daylight saving change for New South Wales.

But will your favourite stores be open for the long weekend? Fear not—we’re here to tell you which shops will be open and when so you can plan your grand final weekend accordingly!


The following states will get an extra day off thanks to the Labour Day holiday: Australian Capital Territory (ACT), New South Wales (NSW), South Australia (SA), and some parts of Tasmania (TAS).

Meanwhile, those from Queensland (QLD) have an extra day off on October 2 for King Charles' Birthday.

Unfortunately, this year, Western Australia (WA) will miss the October long weekend after celebrating the King's Birthday holiday on 25th September.

While residents in Victoria (VIC) will miss out on Labour Day, they still have Friday, September 29, as a public holiday for the upcoming AFL grand final.

On the other hand, the Northern Territory (NT) misses out with no Labour Day holiday.


If you’re lucky enough to get an extra day off for the long weekend, here’s a handy guide to what stores will be open and when.

Coles

For residents of ACT, NSW, QLD, all stores will be open on Labour Day and King’s Birthday public holidays, Monday, 2 October.

All of their stores in VIC are open on Friday, September 29.

Most SA Coles stores will be closed on Monday, 2nd of October, except for the following: Port Lincoln, Port Pirie, Berri, Port Augusta, Mount Barker, Adelaide Rundle Place, Whyalla, Murray Bridge Green, Mount Gambier and Victor Harbor.

ALDI and IGA

ALDI shoppers from all states are advised to check the store locator on their website to confirm their trading hours. You can visit their website here.

As for IGA, they may be open, but only for limited hours, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Customers are also advised to confirm with their local store.


Woolworths

Shoppers from ACT, NSW, QLD, and TAS can visit Woolies as all stores will be open on Monday, 2 October.

Meanwhile, most SA stores will be closed on the public holiday, Monday, 2 October.

All stores in VIC are open on Friday, 29 September.

Customers can also visit the Woolworths website for more specific information—as store hours may vary per location.

Dan Murphy's

All Dan Murphy’s and Beer, Wine & Spirits (BWS) stores will be operational on the long weekend, opening from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. or 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Kmart

Kmart stores in ACT, NSW, QLD will be open on Labour Day and King's Birthday public holiday on Monday, 2 October, but will operate with shortened trading hours.

Their VIC, TAS, and WA stores will be open as normal.

Some of the stores in SA will open on shortened hours on Monday, but most of them will be closed.

Bunnings Warehouse

Residents of ACT, NSW, QLD, TAS, and SA have been advised that all stores are open on Labour Day, Monday, 2 October, but will operate at shortened trading hours.

All stores in VIC are open on the grand final public holiday, Friday, 29 September, but will also operate at shortened trading hours.

Customers can also contact their local store to confirm the trading hours.


IKEA

All IKEA stores in ACT, NSW, QLD, TAS, and SA will be open on the Labour Day and King's Birthday public holiday, Monday, 2 October, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

In VIC, all stores are open on the grand final public holiday, Friday, 29 September, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

BIG W

If you live in ACT, NSW, TAS, or QLD, know that BIG W Stores will be open on Monday, 2 October.

All stores in VIC will be open on the grand final public holiday, Friday, 29 September.

In SA, most stores will be closed on Monday, 2 October, with only some confirmed to be open: Victor Harbour, Port Augusta, Renmark, Murray Bridge and Mount Gambier.


Westfield

In ACT, the Westfield Belconnen and Woden stores will trade from 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. during the long weekend.

NSW Centres, on the other hand, will be open at different times on Monday, 2 October. These include:
  • Westfield Kotara (open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.)
  • Westfield Tuggerah, Eastgardens, Hornsby, Liverpool, Mt Druitt, Penrith and Warringah (open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.)
  • Westfield Bondi Junction, Burwood, Chatswood, Hurstville, Miranda, and Parramatta (open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.)
  • Westfield Sydney and Sydney Central Plaza (open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.)
All SA Westfield centres will be closed.

But QLD centres will be open at various times on Monday, 2 October, including:
  • Westfield North Lakes, Garden City, Carindale and Chermside (open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m)
  • Westfield Coomera and Helensvale (open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.)
Liquorland, Vintage Cellars and First Choice Liquor

In NSW, ACT, and QLD, all Coles-owned alcohol stores will remain open on Monday, 2 October.

Only a handful of Liquorland stores will be open in SA on the same day. These include Port Lincoln, Berri, Port Augusta, Mount Barker, Adelaide Rundle Place, Whyalla Westlands, Murray Bridge, Mount Gambier and Victor Harbor.

In VIC, all stores are open on the grand final public holiday, Friday, 29 September.

Customers are advised to check their local store’s website to confirm the store hours.
