For the adventurous foodie looking for stunning views and an edge-of-your-seat experience, Brisbane now has an option that will bring diners to new heights—literally!
The restaurant is called Vertigo, and it’s Australia's first 'vertical restaurant'.
Located atop the Brisbane Powerhouse, this daring dining spot welcomes guests 17 metres above the ground and sits diners on the side of the industrial building's facade.
Diners must strap into a full-body safety harness before being escorted to their seat.
A social media user named Ebony shared her experience through a video and said: 'Getting into my seat was probably the scariest part, I don’t think I really realised how high up we would be.'
Customers are also given a lanyard for their phones to avoid them from dropping and cutleries are also secured to avoid any mishaps.
While diners must go through a breath test to check for sobriety before climbing up the 17m high restaurant, alcoholic drinks can be ordered with their meals.
Diners can then choose to descend through the building’s stairs, or jump off the side of the building with their harness on.
Though others expressed their excitement over the ‘daring’ meal, some called out the hefty price tag for the dining experience, saying it was ‘ridiculous’ and ‘outrageous’.
'500 dollars though? So much more we could do over two days with that,' one said.
'I don’t like having to wear a harness for work, let alone paying for the pleasure,' another added.
Lord Mayor Adrin Schrinner hoped that the restaurant would encourage more tourists to visit the Sunshine State.
'This new experience is perfect for Brisbane and combines all the attributes we’re renowned for—great food, a beautiful city, a cutting-edge cultural scene and a sense of adventure,' he said.
'I have no doubt Vertigo will draw visitors from across the world to sample the best of Brisbane.'
According to Tourism Minister Stirling Hinchliffe, Vertigo is one of the recipients of the Queensland government’s $15 million Tourism Experience Development (TED) fund.
'This is one of 50 new and reimagined visitor experiences we’re investing in through TED to grow the visitor economy and deliver more than 900 good construction and tourism jobs,' he said.
