I recently bought a box of 110 Finish Classic tablets from the Reject Shop for $19 . Alright I rinse the dishes or soak the heavy soled but at less than 19c a load who cares?

2 of us = 2 cups, or 2 glasses, or 2 bread & butter plates or 2 dinner plates. Leave these few in the dishwasher for 3, 4 or 5 days till dishwasher is full & dishwasher tablets & litres or water (hot or cold) to do the job will be needed to clean off the dried on mess! Some rinse before putting in the dishwasher - use that same water and just a bit more to wash it straight away. Why wait?

We do have a dishwasher but only use it when 8 other members of my immediate family come over for a special meal using b/b & dinner plates, glasses, cups and serving dishes, cutlery etc- too many to wash by hand.

Recently, an Australian man living in Germany took to the internet to express his surprise at the difference in price for a common household product, leading some Aussies at home to ask: are we being ripped off?

The man encountered the price discrepancy when he went shopping for Finish Ultimate Pro Dishwasher Tablets in Germany. He snapped a photo of a bag of 43 capsules priced at €8.99 (or $14.80 AUD).

'Australian living overseas here. Never realised how badly we get ripped off at the grocery store until I saw this,' the man wrote, posting the photo as proof.

Back home in Australia, the same Finish Ultimate Pro Dishwasher Tablets will set you back more than double the overseas price, at $54 full price at Coles and Woolworths. It speaks to a glaring difference between what Australians are paying in comparison to the rest of the world, and locals had a few theories.

'Tablets are a scam. That's over $1 per load whereas powder is about 3c per load and you can regulate how much powder you need and reduce for half loads,' one Redditor pointed out, while another said: 'You don't buy these from Woolies or Coles. Go to The Reject Shop or even ALDI or you are paying too much.'

Another echoed this suggestion: ‘A pack of 50 is $20 at The Reject Shop. Being in Australia isn't what is ripping us off. It's the corporate greed of Coles and Woolworths.’

Aussies should join Choice which does the independent testing of products , white goods and electronic devices and gives a rating on each. I shop at Aldi for my dishwasher tablets which are just as good as Finish tablets but cheaper.

Any natural products that do the same job? Bicarb soda and vinegar maybe? That would be a fraction of the price of tablets, and still be good for the machine.

If you compared this in countries world wide you will see a price difference, you also have to take into account the wages ect in the countries we are comparing prices to

There are also different rates of Payroll Tax, Customs and Excise Duty ( if not manufactured in the same Country) Freight Tax, etc. All of these imposts do affect Sale prices. NOT saying that NO rip offs exist…but.

When you travel overseas, it becomes apparent very quickly that Australians pay a huge premium of goods. Cars are a perfect example. EG: They use Mercedes for taxis in Germany. Maybe not the top of the line models, but you get the idea.

Choice in Australia is also limited. Again, look at car models available.

That's because the majority of car manufacturers make left hand drive and won't tool up many models for right hand drive which is only us and U.K, not sure about N.Z. Britain is talking about going left hand so that will reduce the market even more and make our cars more expensive.

Where are these washing tablets made? In Asian countries maybe. Either way the whole thing is a great ripoff!
