Are two fan-favourite Home and Away characters really leaving the show?

Long-time fans of Home and Away will no doubt be aware of the many cast changes that have taken place over the years – it's a natural part of any television show.

Characters come and go, sometimes for a good reason and other times…not so much. But regardless of the reasons behind why certain actors choose to leave a show, it always stings when our favourite characters are written out.

It looks like we might have to prepare ourselves for another big change in Summer Bay, as rumours are swirling that fan-favourite couple Ziggy Astoni (Sophie Dillman) and Dean Thompson (Patrick O'Connor) may be on their way out.

The speculation started after an Instagram photo was posted by Lynne McGranger (Irene Roberts), showing several members of the Home and Away cast posing on the beach with new cast member Kyle Shilling during filming.

Notably absent from the group were Sophie Dillman and Patrick O'Connor, which led many fans to believe they had already left or were about to leave the show.

Rumours have been swirling around their exit since a fan saw them filming goodbye scenes on location earlier this year.

In the scene, Sophie Dillman's character Ziggy was loading their car before leaving Summer Bay for good – although it's worth noting that this could simply be part of an upcoming storyline rather than confirmation that she has left Home and Away for good.

As if that weren't enough to fuel the rumours, the public hasn't seen the on-screen (and real-life) couple in Palm Beach since then.

Instead, during the past few months, Sophie and Patrick have been travelling, and Patrick has even dyed his hair a dirty blonde colour.

Fans were quick to point out that a few cast members were missing from the group photo on Instagram, and Lynne McGranger appeared to confirm Sophie and Patrick's exit from the show in the comments section.

'Heartbroken that Dean and Ziggy have left. Someone said yesterday they filmed final scenes in September,' one fan wrote in the comments, to which Lynne replied: '[It was] July/August.'

Seven hasn't confirmed yet if the two have left the show, but we're not going to lie – we're feeling pretty heartbroken at the thought of another major change in Summer Bay. We wish the best for both Patrick and Sophie in their future endeavours, whether that be at Home and Away or elsewhere!
