Are their titles on the chopping block? Insiders reveal tension between Royal Family members because of one act

The British Royal Family has never been far from the headlines.

With the Royal Family being at the centre of speculation over the past years, a recent report suggested that a new drama could be on the horizon.

What's going on behind the palace gates, and what does it mean for the future of the monarchy?

According to recent reports, Prince William has been 'enraged' by Meghan Markle's continued use of her 'Her Royal Highness' (HRH) title.

The Duchess of Sussex has been using the title in connection with her new lifestyle brand, As Ever.

The controversy flared after Meghan reportedly signed a gift basket for a host with the note, 'With the Compliments of HRH The Duchess of Sussex.'

This led to speculation that Prince William may formally strip both Meghan and Prince Harry of their HRH titles should he ascend the throne.

'King Charles III might be happy to put up with this, but William won't,' A royal insider told the Daily Beast.

'He loathes and despises Harry and Meghan with every bone in his body; he believes they have betrayed everything the family stands for, and the idea that they are using their royal status as a calling card will enrage him.'

The HRH (Her/His Royal Highness) titles are more than just a fancy prefix.

It's a symbol of official Royal status, which comes with certain privileges and responsibilities.

When Harry and Meghan stepped back from Royal duties in 2020, it was agreed they would no longer use their HRH titles.

While they still have their titles as Duke and Duchess of Sussex, they're not supposed to use them for commercial purposes.

A spokesperson on behalf of Meghan Markle denied any wrongdoing and stated that the use of the title on a personal gift does not violate the agreement.

However, former royal staffers and commentators disagreed and argued that the couple had agreed not to use the HRH titles 'at all, ever, in any capacity'.

Since moving to California, Prince Harry and Meghan have built a new life far from the royal spotlight.

They have two children—Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet—and recently launched a series of projects and advocacy programs.

Meghan Markle recently introduced her Netflix series, With Love, Meghan, which premiered last March.

Their decision to step back from royal duties has been a source of tension within the Royal family, with reports of strained relationships between Princes Harry and William.

Supporters of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex argued that Prince Harry and Meghan are trying to carve out a new path for themselves and their family.

Could Prince William really strip Prince Harry and Meghan of their HRH titles? Technically, yes.

The monarch has the power to grant and revoke royal titles, and there has been a precedent for such action.

However, this move may cause controversy and further inflame tensions within the Royal Family.

It would also raise questions about the future role of the monarchy in a modern, multicultural society; something that's already a hot topic in Australia and other Commonwealth countries.
Key Takeaways

  • Prince William reportedly planned to strip Meghan Markle and Prince Harry of their HRH (Her Royal Highness/His Royal Highness) titles when he becomes King.
  • Sources claimed that Meghan's use of her HRH title in personal branding and gifts could violate an agreement to not use the titles after stepping back from Royal duties.
  • Insiders stated that King Charles III was reluctant to strip the Duke and Duchess of Sussex of their titles, but Prince William could take a firmer stance once he takes the throne.
  • Meghan Markle's spokesperson argued that she did not breach any agreements as the HRH title was not used commercially.

Simply put, I agree with Prince William - they are NOT working Royals, Prince Harry should be able to keep the title "Prince" due to birth, but not "HRH" title as he & Meham walked away from that job.
Remember, anyone one who walks away or leaves their jobs they DON'T take their titles with them.

Remember Edward VIII lost his title and only became a Duke and his partner/wife had NO TITLE at all.

I understand strip Megan of her title if she is using it against what is allowed but as for Harry he was born with the title of Prince and he should not have it taken from him.

If anyone should have their title removed is Prince Andrew but even then I believe it is something his mother would not have wanted done.

A working Royal gets paid . Harry isn't a working Royal so doesn't get paid but doesn't mean he should lose his title which is his birth right.

At the time when they left for America, the UK news stated that the Queen had an agreement with them to stop using their HRH title. She said that only working royals are allowed to use their royal titles. The Queen dropped Andrew's HRH title. They can all use their royal titles, but not use HRH apparently.

It's been proved that many statements and schemes of Megan Markle are false. She wants to have the royal name for herself and her children as it works for her and her 'brands. I argue that like Prince William I would remove any claim by her of being Royal. She disassociated herself from the 'Royal Family' and created so much upset and tension for so many (Staffers included).

I believe the title Prince is not in dispute, it is the use of the HRH that is in dispute.

It was part of THEIR agreement when they stepped back from royal life that they could not and would not use this title which is for working royals.

I believe that Harry should still retain the title Prince, but they should not have any other title as they wished to be ordinary people and therefore so be it.
They don't want to be working royals but they still want to benefit by trading on it.
Not on, they should stick by the agreement they made.

They can have ut stripped from them and I believe they should as there is nothing 'royal' in their behaviour and by their own choice they stepped away but that wouldn't stop them using HRH when it suits their purpose. They are a law unto themselves I reckon.

They chose to step back from Royalty so they shouldn't have any title.
They certainly seem to want their cake and eat it but are not prepared to do the hard graft that the actual Royals have to do.
I used to have so much respect and admiration for Harry but, while i understand he has to support his immediate family, he has really gone downhill on everything and I think that is such a shame.

IF as stated the Couple had “ AGREED “ They would no longer use their HRH TITLE
It should not come as a surprise when Prince William is enraged at Megan Markle’s
continued use of HRH..
I would love to see Her stripped of Her title.. and the look on her face.

Harry and Meghan are nothing more than celebrities in America, and whatever they do, is done to remain relevant. There is no place for them, in that capacity, in UK…..There is no way they can just waltz back in and expect the preferential treatment afforded to working royals. William and Catherine are not celebrities either in UK or America or anywhere else. They are royals wherever they go and they work very hard at keeping UK on the map and promoting UK overseas…. They have lots of charities and schemes geared to making the world a better place, especially for young people……They deserve their titles and place in the world….Harry and Meghan do not….

Here's a thought - and MM would be the first to react - give her a choice - either forfeit the title of HRH or charge them a levy of lets say $100k every time the HRH was used. With MM''s thirst for money in everything she does, I am sure she would soon relinquish the title.

Do we even know if Harry has used the HRH title since moving to the States ? As usual MM will do what she pleases, no need to wonder who heads that family ! She is no more than Mrs now in my view. Because Harry seems to think the world of her he should lose his HRH title but he will always be a prince, however she ain’t no princess !!!
