Anyone who frequents Coles or Woolworths will be familiar with many of the products on the list, like Nescafé, Coke, Glad Wrap and Smiths chips.


Prices for these items have stayed the same, but now we’re getting far less for our money–and we’re not always being told about the changes.

Take Nescafé's Australian-roasted Blend 43, for example. The product was silently dropped from 300g to 250g in supermarkets, but it came with a sticker that tried to make the change look positive.

'The Nescafé example, it kind of blows my mind that they’d slap a shiny, “New Size” sticker on something when it's clearly smaller in every way,' says Neal. 'It's a disgrace.'

Glad Wrap's bulk option has also been reduced by 25 per cent, with a 'value pack' going from 400m to 300m in length.

But in the case of cereal–brands like Weet-Bix and Kellogg’s are among the worst offenders when it comes to ‘shrinkflation’.

'One of my favourites, or I guess maybe least favourite, examples is cereal. I've seen pictures of the overall amount decreasing but the front of the box staying exactly the same size,' Chauhan said.


For example, a Weet-Bix value pack has gone from 1.5kg to 1.2kg–a 300g reduction for the iconic breakfast. Similarly, Froot Loops have gone from 500g to 460g while raising their price tag to $10. The item is currently on sale at Coles for only $7.50.

‘It feels unfair to package your stuff in a pretty empty box,’ Chauhan continued.

Ice cream giant Ben and Jerry's recently shrank the size of its pints. However, the brand released a statement to explain the changes. It read:

‘Maintaining top quality ice cream and values sourced ingredients comes with increasing costs. And so, we’ve made the difficult decision to make our tubs slightly smaller.’
The statement continued: ‘We wanted to be transparent with you because we care about you, our fans and our communities while making the best ice cream in the world.’

Even sweet treats have been impacted by the trend. Oreos, LCMs and Monte Carlos have all seen their filling seemingly halved since they were first introduced.

While Cadbury’s chocolate blocks went from 250g to 200g a couple of years ago and now weigh 180g.

Yes, I have noticed this happening for the past decade, product sizes shrinking and prices inflating on over 75% of products, including personal care products, cleaning products, so called HEALTH products, sanitary items, shampoo's conditioners,
snack and lunch items, crisps, biscuits, pet food, babyfood, dairy, margarine, chocolate and much more.

I have been complaining to store managers regarding BREAD SIZES IN N.S.W (650gm Woolworths brand bread-all varieties) compared to Q.L.D (700gm Woolworths brand bread-all varieties) Same price!!!???
Why ??
Some are 600gm compared to 750gm.

Cadbury STILL claim that they have 2.5cups of full cream milk in a SMALLER 180gm block COMPARED TO the ORIGINAL 250gm block

Remember (Prof. Julius Summer Miller advertised back in the 70's/80's and 90's that every Cadbury block contined 2.5 cups of milk in every 250gm block.
How does that recipe remain the same in a smaller 180gm block?

Scammed by advertising "SPECIAL" too. Last weeks datedproducts still on the shelf this week either gone up or on special due to lack of sales.
The up down each week is totally ridiculous.
Buyer demand is unrecordable because of the regular price changes.

We were out West recently in Blackbutt, QLD. Oh, my Black & Gold brand ice cream in SPAR was $8.95 and other Ice creams were over $10 for a 2litre tub.
Bacon rashers $14 Kilo 😯😯 Such a joke, I do not know how they cope with the Price hikes out in rural area's lso from IGA, SPAR AND FAMILY GROCER.
THEY mark all products up over 300%.
It is ludicrus and to use THE NON EXISTANT WAR IN UKRAINE (That effects us by 0.000872% as we do not receive really much of ANYTHING from their). Also, it is truelly military excercises and they arehappening worldwide, plus the finding, rescue, clean up and clean out of the BIOWEAPONS LABS they had all over Ukraine testing on humans in those facilities set up and paid for by Barrack Obama and George Soros, the U.N and N.A.T.O.. the media will not disclose this Truth.
But that is another story, for another day.

Is total lies and shows Australia's production and agriculture has been sold off too much to other countries. We have more than enough land and resources here in Australia.

So sick of the lies and marketing ploys with consumables etc.

People need to stand up, start saying NO !!
STOP paying these ludicrus prices,
be more SELF SUFFICIENT, have small gardens at home, or be involved in or create community gardens, start seeking other alternatives like LOCAL EGG FARMS, BULK MEAT sellers, farmers whom will sell to the public.
Bake more at home, eat better and be more joyous that you are co creating bettter self sufficient ways of supporting and sustaining a better lifestyle.
