Apple Pay Scam
Not sure how it works (I suspect phishing for your bank account details) - but there is a new scam going around related to Apple Pay.
I received an SMS message about a week ago stating that a new "device" had been added to my "ApplePay" account, with a link provided to correct / remove this addition if it was not me. I only have two devices capable of using ApplePay, and both of these are already connected to the app - though I generally only use one of them.
I did not click on the "link" provided, suspecting that it was not what it was claimed to be, but have been keeping a close watch on the bank account linked to my ApplePay account for the past week to see if there have been any unusual transactions - there have not.
This morning I received another SMS message (not sure if it was from the same number or not as I deleted the last one) this time saying that "ApplePay has been deactivated on my mobile" again with a link provided to reactivate my device. Again, I will not click on the link - and I have checked my ApplePay account - it is still working without problems on both the devices that I have it activated on.
So just to let everyone know - if you get any strange SMS messages regarding your ApplePay (or any other type of electronic payment) account - DON't click on the link. You can be sure that it is NOT going to end well for you if you do.
