Another cultural shock from a Parisian
Arriving in Australia from Paris (where your laundry was picked up at your door and delivered back freshly ironed within 48h max), we rented a flat in a brand new building and was shown, to my shock and horror, a "gas copper" in the laundry (first and last time I sighted the contraption). Within a week had to wash double bed sheets in the bathtub and Laundromats having yet to arrive in Australia, I decided to go and buy a washing machine...Twin tub being the only one that would fit in the bathroom, ... where we left it 3years down the track when we moved into our newly bought house where I could fit a proper washing machine
(btw someone must have liked my beautiful French undies on the rotary line at the back as they disappeared and I had from then on to dry them inside the flat)
