"Xantippe" refers to the small region in Western Australia that is the only place in Australia whose name starts with the letter 'X', and potentially to the wife of the ancient Greek philosopher Socrates, Xanthippe, who is known for her allegedly ill-tempered behavior. The Western Australian Xantippe was named either after Xanthippe or from an Indigenous word meaning "looking for water from a deeper well". The region is known for its Xantippe Nature Reserve and the Xantippe Water Tank, a historic water catchment tank.
