Alert: Coles issues recall on this favourite lunch item—could it harm you?

Attention, sandwich lovers and Coles shoppers! If you've recently picked up a quick lunch from Coles, you'll want to read on carefully.

Coles has issued an urgent recall on a popular lunch item that could pose a serious health risk to those with specific dietary restrictions.

The supermarket giant has pulled the Coles Kitchen Chicken and Salad Sandwich (194g) from shelves across Victoria due to the presence of an undeclared allergen—milk.

This recall is crucial for individuals with milk allergies or intolerances, as accidental consumption could lead to a potentially dangerous allergic reaction.

The affected sandwiches were available for purchase at various Coles outlets, including regular, local, and online stores, between the 27th and 28th of February.

The concern arose after it was discovered that the product labelling failed to mention that it contained milk, an oversight that could have profound implications for allergy sufferers.

Food allergies can be life-threatening, and the importance of accurate labelling cannot be overstated for those who may not be aware.

Symptoms of a milk allergy can range from mild to severe and include hives, wheezing, itching, or swelling, and in extreme cases, anaphylaxis—a total body reaction that can impair breathing, cause a dramatic drop in blood pressure and affect heart rate.

Coles has taken swift action to address the issue, advising customers who have purchased the sandwich and have a milk allergy or intolerance to avoid consuming the product.

Instead, they should seek immediate medical advice if they are concerned about their health.

The recall affects sandwiches sold in several locations, including South Melbourne, Glenferrie, Camberwell, Balwyn North, Fitzroy, Brighton, St Kilda, Toorak Village, Normanby Road, and Surrey Hills.

The product in question has a used-by date of 2 March, and it was sold both in-store and online.

'We apologise to our customers for any inconvenience. Customers seeking further information can contact Coles Customer Care on 1800 061 562,' Coles said in a statement.

If you have this sandwich in your possession, you can return it to any Coles supermarket or Coles Local store for a full refund.

If you purchased the sandwich online, you can contact Coles Online Customer Care at 1800 455 400 to receive a full refund or credit.

In the 1950's my Mother, being a retired Triple Certificated Nurse, used to have many pre Natal Women call on Her to Chat and advise, due to there being NO Doctors in a new Suburb. I well recall her saying many times " Eat plenty of Raw Peanuts, Drink plenty of Full Cream Milk and ensure that you eat Eggs to accustom the Babe to these products" I wonder if they contracted any Allergies later in Life???

I bet they didn’t. It’s probably all the “don’t eat this and don’t eat that” when you’re pregnant causing all these allergies today.

Bastards too bloody lazy to make themselves a sandwich. Do they have someone wipe their arse?
Have you stopped to think that people may be travelling and know Coles is a cheaper option? cheaper than other takeaway. When we were travelling we took our lunch the first day then bought it after that.

It is a bit later to write an article about it now. I told a friend of mine about another one on this site a few weeks ago. Apparently it had been announced on TV a full week before
My immediate thoughts also. A bit late to shut the gate gate after the bull has bolted. 🐃

They've eventually sent out notification to cover their butts. 🤷‍♀️
