Aldi bags top wine trophies at the prestigious Riverina Wine Show
We all know Aldi as one of our go-to supermarkets for our groceries. But did you know that the retailer is also home to some of Australia's finest wines?

You read that right! The German retailer has bagged an impressive 16 awards or ‘gongs’ altogether at the prestigious Riverina Wine Show — Australia's leading wine show.

Aldi's $17.99 Blackstone Paddock Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon 2019 swept the competition, winning three of the four top trophies — Best Cabernet Sauvignon, Best Red Wine of Show, and Champion of Show, Ian Bicego Memorial Trophy.

Meanwhile, the winner for the top trophy for Best Dry White is none other than Aldi's $7.99 A.C. Byrne Margaret River Sauvignon Blanc Semillon 2021.

Aside from the top trophies, the retailer's $4.99 South Point Estate Rose 2021 — the cheapest drink along with another one of Aldi's brands, South Point Estate Chardonnay Pinot Noir Sparkling NV, which won silver — also won a gold medal.

Aldi Australia's Wine Buying Director Jason Bowyer said that the retailer was delighted with the awards.

These awards complement what consumers have voted on with Aldi winning 'Best Liquor Retailer' in this years' Canstar Awards, and we are beyond thrilled and excited by every prestigious award win and recognition our drops continue to receive," he said.

"So whether you prefer a refreshing bubbly, white or rose, or a deep, rich red — the one thing we can all agree on is that shoppers will get top-shelf value for the lowest prices possible when purchasing wine at Aldi."

The retailer has also notably bagged double gold for its $4.99 Australian sparkling last June at the Melbourne International Wine Competition, meaning the German supermarket chain is really developing a reputation for selling top-notch booze.

My brother buys his wine from Aldi & has always said they are as good as more expensive ones. I love a Cabernet on special occasions so will try the Blackstone for this Christmas!

@martho1gold I didn't know that...

Here in NSW you can't buy alcohol in Coles, Woolies, IGA, etc... But somehow Aldi has managed to get around this. Not sure what the story is there - they must have a liquor license of some sort.
