AIBU, which stands for 'Am I Being Unreasonable', is the perfect platform for sharing your thoughts and opinions! So, for today's AIBU discussion, we have this story from Reddit/SuspectEducational75:

Am I being unreasonable for choosing to live with my grandparents instead of my siblings and stepmother?

'After my dad's sudden passing, a custody issue arose. Dad had remarried and had two kids with his second wife, alongside us - his children from his first marriage. Dad hadn't explicitly stated his wishes, but it was understood that we would stay with his wife if anything happened to him. When I found out, I expressed my desire to live with my maternal grandparents instead. My younger siblings wanted to stay with our stepmother. They felt a strong bond with her and our half-siblings. Despite their pleas for me to stay, I insisted on living with my grandparents.

During the custody hearing, I explained to the judge that I didn't feel a connection with my dad's second wife and preferred to live with my grandparents, whom I loved and respected. The judge granted my wish, allowing me to live with my grandparents while my siblings remained with our stepmother. The judge also mandated therapy sessions to help my siblings understand and accept my decision.

Although my stepmother was upset by the outcome and made hurtful remarks, therapy sessions have helped my siblings come to terms with the situation. While they still struggle to grasp why I don't feel the same bond with our stepmother, they understand that our relationships differ. Despite the tension, I stand by my decision to prioritize my relationship with my grandparents.'
