AIBU, which stands for 'Am I Being Unreasonable', is the perfect platform for sharing your thoughts and opinions! So, for today's AIBU discussion, we have this story from Reddit/miggovortensens:

Am I being unreasonable for bringing rotisserie chicken to an all-homemade potluck?

'My sister and a group of her friends from high school meet once a month to catch up and have a potluck dinner together. This month they met at my sister’s place and she asked me if I wanted to join them. She told me I had to bring a homemade dish, since that’s one of the purposes of these gatherings, to give them a reason to cook something and take a break from fast-food. I said okay.'

'I was supposed to make a roast chicken, but I honestly forgot to defrost it, so I ended up buying rotisserie chicken on my way to my sister’s house. I didn’t pretend I had made it, I was honest, none of her friends minded, and it’s not like I’d bought KFC.'

'My sister looked bothered though, and when we were alone for a moment she told me I had to have warned them when I realised I wouldn’t be able to cook, and that it was rude of me to show up for the first time already disrespecting the rules of their group or what not. I thought that was such an overreaction, but now I’m wondering if I was being unreasonable.'

You forgot to defrost the chicken and purchased one already cooked instead. As you had originally planned on cooking the chicken yourself, I don't think you are unreasonable. What if you had turned up empty handed? 🌷

We all make a mistake occasionally. At least you didn't leave them without food!
I think your sister was embarrassed. Being a sister she felt she had the right to call you out.

Some sister. If her group are so damned picky, give them the big miss. It wasn't intentional and impossible to warn in advance of an accident or oversight. Bugger the lot of them.

Next time you are invited to a potluck at your sisters….turn up with nothing, then she will have something to whinge about..
Better still just give it a miss!!!
I do not have sisters….if this is how they treat one another, I’m glad I don’t!!!

I'd tell her to pull her head in.
The only victims here are the 2 chooks. Your sister is just too precious for her own good.
Actually, with that kind of behaviour, I would ditch the pot luck get together and create your own group. Maybe a Takeaway club so everyone can be spared the cooking for a day.

What in the hell is a "homemade potluck"/

Sounds like something straight outta Compton....or New York.

Very popular around the '60s...as was having one meal at a persons home then everyone moving out to have more food at a second persons home and then a third persons home for something different again and then finally finishing up at the last persons home for more food ,drinks and a party. Fun nights back in the day.;)

Maybe it's a code for "bring your own home-grown pot"?

It's hardly the end of the world. Either way they were getting a roast chicken. If you had put the bought one on a plate, they probably wouldn't have known the difference.
