After millions of dollars in paydays, is Prince Harry now 'begging' the King for money?

We all know that the royals aren't exactly strapped for cash.

But it seems that even with all their wealth and privilege, money is still a big issue for some members of the royal family — namely, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle if the recent commentary is to be believed.

According to a piece by writer and royal commentator Daniela Elser, Harry had been 'begging' his father, King Charles, for money amid allegations of financial struggles.

‘(I)n among the approximately 328 stories about Harry and Meghan, Duke and Duchess of Sussex and their forthcoming six-part Netflix series… we have this shocker: They seem to have had some money problems.’ she wrote.

Elser shares that apparently, Harry has been desperately trying to get in touch with his father King Charles — and that the King has stopped taking the Prince’s calls altogether.

‘Harry reportedly “bombarded” the late Queen “with calls when she was put on light duties due to her worsening mobility,” which would mean this took place at some point since October last year when Her Majesty’s health crisis started.’ she said.

If true, this would be a stark departure from the glamorous life we all think royals live — incessant coverage of the smallest details of their lives aside.

Elser then shared a tidbit from the UK tabloid The Sun, which featured an ‘insider’ who claimed that all was not well for the prince.

‘Harry is not as well off as people are led to believe. He was wanting money,’ an insider told the paper, according to Elser.

‘The late Queen was always happy to speak with Harry but when he asked for money she said, “Why don’t you speak to your father?”’

And, according to the anonymous source, it was then that Harry admitted then-Prince Charles had ceased talking to his son about his alleged requests for money.

Furthermore, the insider said that the beloved Queen straight up asked her son about Prince Harry’s financial ‘woes’, which earned a rather blunt response.

‘When the Queen asked Charles what he was doing about it because she was fielding so many calls, he told her, “I’m not a bank”.’

The claim must have raised more than a few eyebrows — Elser’s included — as she asks: ‘Where has all the Sussexes' money gone?’

‘If you’ve been following the melodramatic Sussex story for the last few years then you would likely think that the couple is positively rolling in dosh,’ she said, referring to the many lucrative deals the Harry and Meghan have racked up since moving to the US.

‘First came news of their Netflix contract, then their Spotify one, followed by Penguin Random House getting in on the action and securing Harry’s talents via a reported multi-title deal.’ she said

‘Harry also managed to break new ground for the House of Windsor by going out and getting himself that most shocking of things, a job.

‘In March 2021, it emerged he had joined the C-suite at the billion-dollar company BetterUp as the Chief Impact Officer.

‘While there has never been any indication of how much the Duke might be pocketing for the gig, or whether he is being paid in cash, shares or all the vegan power bars he can carry from the office kitchen, you’d have to imagine that the value of this deal is significant.’

Elser also took aim at Meghan’s activities, including her tie-up with a vegan latte brand and her book authorship.

Then, there’s also the couple’s foray into Wall Street with their venture into financial technology with asset manager Ethic.

‘While no one knows the exact figure, estimates have put the total at upwards of $245 million.’ Elser said.

‘In short, when it came to their new life in the US, it was definitely a case of “for richer”.’

Elser then attempts to answer her own rhetorical question of ‘Where did the money go?’ with a possible lead: Harry and Meghan’s lifestyle.

She pointed at the couple’s million-dollar mansion purchase in Montecito, Meghan’s thousand-dollar wardrobe, and Harry’s equally expensive ponies as examples that they aren’t exactly the most conservative — at least, speaking in financial terms.

But for all her exposition, Elser then went back to her million-dollar question (literally).

‘Still, we have not gotten to the bottom of the riddle here: Where exactly is that 245 million dollars that the world’s most famous émigrés are meant to be earning?’

‘And that is before we even get to the most extraordinary element of this Sun report which is that reportedly even after Harry and Meghan had accused the royal family of institutional racism, ignoring their suffering and of “total neglect” (Harry) still had the chutzpah to turn around and ask them for money.’

Key Takeaways

  • Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been dogged by reports of money troubles.
  • According to Daniela ELser, writer and royal commentator, it is believed that King Charles stopped taking his son's calls begging for money.
  • The couple has signed multiple business deals since moving to the US, earning them an estimated $245 million.
  • However, Elser stresses it is not clear where all this money has gone, as the couple has spent lavishly on things like private jets and designer clothes.
Sadly, if you’re looking for answers, all Elser has is an open-ended question.

If it’s any consolation though, she shares that the King has allegedly requested Prince Harry reach him by email instead.

‘The story does not detail whether the Bank of Dad agreed to help Harry,’ Elser says in closing.

‘But if this report is accurate then it would seem that Harry has some challenges when it comes to both dollars and sense.’

Meanwhile, in related news, Prince William is also said to be on the offensive against Prince Harry and Meghan — but that’s if they feel the Sussexes make any untoward accusations about the royal family in the upcoming six-part Netflix series titled Harry & Meghan.

If all of this IS true, you poor (?) things! Imagine having to watch your last million! Suffer guys! You chose to exit the Royal Family, and seek fame and fortune elsewhere, so be it! As they say, you made your bed; now lie in it! How about instead of those measly millions you ‘need’ to just get by on, try surviving on the aged pension! You make me sick!

I am not a royalist, however, if members of my family had done what these two guttersnipes have done my answer would have of just two words, of which one would have been OFF?

Look I dont really want alienate myself from the group, but these ppl split from the protection (legally and financially) of the Royal family. So bottom line is they're now independent so be it.

Why the tabloids and social media continue to make anything about them or the royal family is just bs to me. Obviously there are royalist Aussies who fly the union Jack in their garages rather than the Australian flag and its those sad people that lap up anything about the royals, I think these royalist aussies must all be sons or daughters of Robert Menzies LOL

They made their bed so they can now lie in it. Karma is a b…ch

Its time both of them got proper jobs instead of living off of the royal family and their connections to it. They are a disgrace and Charles is doing the right thing.

This couple seem like a vengeful, petulant pair of 12 year olds. I just wish the press would not stop giving them print-room.
I wish so too, but they are on Netflix that is getting the attention from the media. They have stated that it's not about privacy for them, but hope that changes for everybody.
