The nutritionist says at the beginning of the video: "It's vegan and contains no flour or refined sugars."

To prepare the cake, Selma mashes 2 overripe bananas in a large bowl before adding in 1/2 cup of peanut butter and mixing the wet ingredients together.

Next, she adds 1/3 cup of cacao powder and 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder into the bowl and mixes them with the wet ingredients until they are well-combined.

Selma then scoops the batter using a spoon and places it into a cake tin brushed with vegan butter.

For those who do not have vegan butter at their disposal, parchment paper could also be used as a substitute.

The cake mixture is then baked for about 10 to 12 minutes at 180 degrees celsius.

Finally, the nutritionist serves the cake on a plate and garnishes it with strawberries.

The video gained massive traction on TikTok, with many users raving over how easy and affordable the recipe is.

One person wrote: "Woah! I actually have the ingredients!"

"Overripe bananas make the BEST treats," another quipped.

A third chimed in: "That’s the best kind of banana tho. Perfectly yellow bananas taste a bit unripe still."

Others disclosed that they are allergic to nuts and they might possibly skip this because of that concern.

However, Selma suggested that substituting tahini for peanut butter could do the trick.

Ingredients:
  • 2 mashed bananas
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter (120 ml)
  • 1/3 cup cacao powder (80 ml)
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder

Method
  1. Mash bananas into a mixing bowl.
  2. Mix the wet ingredients together
  3. Add the dry ingredients and stir until combined
  4. Pour into a small greased cake tin. Bake at 180 Celsius degrees (350 in Fahrenheit) for about 10-12 minutes. Garnish with some berries or any topping of your choice.

Bananas never get to an overripe stage in this household, but the recipe does look good so I'll go and hunt for some in the local IGA

They never go to waste in my place: I use them for banana bread or cake, or feed them to possums, blue tongues love them, too, as well as water dragons. And the peel goes into my watering cans for a few days and feed the flowers....
