A picture of a potato went viral - can YOU spot what's wrong with it?

We've all seen some pretty impressive cakes in our time.
Whether it's a beautiful and intricate three-tiered wedding cake, an elegantly designed birthday cake, or even a simple yet scrumptious-looking chocolate cake from your local bakery, there's no denying that cakes come in all shapes and sizes – not to mention flavours!
But as anyone who's ever attempted to make one themselves will know, baking a good cake is definitely not as easy as it looks. In fact, it can be quite the challenge... especially if you're trying to make one that looks like something else entirely.
Take this mother's recent creation, for example. When her son jokingly asked her to make him a potato-themed birthday cake recently, Nicole Salinas from Canberra took on the task with enthusiasm – and the final result has since gone viral online for its incredibly realistic appearance.
At first glance (and even second and third), many people struggle to believe that this is a cake and not an actual potato! It looks so eerily real that it would be easy to mistake it for the real thing... which is surely the highest compliment you could give any baker.
'I thought you were going to post the photo of the cake, not an actual potato,' one user wrote in the comments section of her post. Another added, 'Are we sure this isn't a potato? The likeness is incredible!'
'The realism about this is incredible! So simple, but so much detail,' said a third, with a fourth joining the conversation and saying, 'We need a cut photo, please, for proof! It looks too much like a potato to be a cake…'
So how did she do it? Well, according to the mum-of-three, she made the dessert using two $6 Woolworths caramel mud cakes, fondant, some gel colouring, brown petal dust, and Betty Crocker icing – which goes to show that you don't need fancy ingredients or tools to create something truly spectacular.
The entire process reportedly took less than an hour too! Here's how she did it:
Nicole then offered some words of wisdom to home bakers everywhere who may be struggling to think outside the box when it comes to making eye-catching cakes for any occasion.
The first step is to learn how to make the most of common grocery store items.
Self-teaching is an essential skill, so check out the internet for additional guidance as well. Learning is not limited to only reading, though; you can also get ideas from the videos and pictures posted on social media.
Last but not least, she made a point of saying that you shouldn't be frightened to try new things, especially with family and friends; failure is not something to be feared.
You read it here, folks! The next time you're feeling uninspired in the kitchen or struggling to come up with an original dessert idea, why not take a leaf out of Nicole Salinas' book and think outside the (cake) box?
There's always a chance you'll find out you have a knack for the kitchen and surprise everyone with your ability to turn cakes into works of beauty. Let us know what you think of this, members!

- Place two layers of caramel mud cake on top of one another, and fill the space in between with buttercream.
- Hand-form the cakes into a potato shape, and finish them off with a crumb coat of buttercream to mimic the texture of an authentic potato.
- To get the most realistic colour for the potato cake, mix gel food colouring with fondant. (According to Nicole, this is probably the most tedious part of the process.)
- Use a variety of baking tools or everyday items to make marks and dimples on the cake. Use a crumpled-up freezer bag to add texture to the outside of the cake and brown petal dust to make it look like it was painted.
