Ah, school. Today’s throwback is a snap taken in a school in Darwin in the late 50s showing children reading books and colouring on sheets of paper while what appears to be their teachers or parents keep watchful eyes.

Something about this image evokes memories of times when life wasn’t so complicated, and all you had to think about was playing with friends and staying in mum and dad’s good graces.

What was school like for you growing up? Does this image take you on a trip down memory lane? Tell us your thoughts!

I’m 71 and grew up in the UK, in (for those fans of the Yorkshire Vet) Herriot country. Y first school ad 32 pupils and two classrooms with the different grades being in rows. infants (now pre-school had roundbacked chairs and little desks , next had benches and flat desks and the final junior class had benches with a proper lift up desk. In the other classroom, we got to use pen and ink and blotting paper - many fights with pellets of blotting paper and ink! They were very happy days, with lots of hugs and encouragement from the teachers.
