4 household items you can clean using dishwasher tablets – aside from dishes, of course

Dishwasher tablets are the little rectangular packages used to wash the dishes in a dishwasher. They are made from detergent designed to tackle stains and dissolve grease left on our dishes and cookware.

But even if you don’t have a dishwasher at home, you might still want to consider buying a pack of these tablets. These little pods are powerhouses when it comes to cleaning!

Here, we’re about to share with you guys a few more household items you can clean with a dishwasher tablet.

But before that, a word of advice to our members!

A dishwasher tablet (or detergent) is quite different from dishwashing liquid, which is made to be used when hand washing dishes. We recommend using a pair of protective gloves on your hands when using dishwashing tablets, and working in an open and well-ventilated area to avoid directly inhaling any fumes.

Air fryer

In the last few years, the number of people who have an air fryer in their homes has risen tremendously. And as fun and innovative as they may be, they are prone to build-ups of burnt food and oil.

Dishwasher tablets to the rescue!

Jennie, who goes by the handle @hall_at_home on Instagram, has been sharing plenty of helpful home hacks on her page, and shared that she uses dishwasher tablets when cleaning her air fryer.

All she has to do is pop a dishwasher tablet on the air fryer tray and pour in boiling water. After letting it soak on the sink for around 15 minutes, she tips out the water and gives the drawer and internal tray a good rinse. Then wipe and pop it back in!

Oven door

All the oil, fat, and grease coming off the food we cook in the oven doesn't just cause a huge mess on the racks, but also makes its way onto our oven doors. What’s worse is that we can’t afford to be abrasive in our cleaning methods, or else we risk leaving scratches on the glass.

Thankfully, one woman is here to share with us that she found out that using dishwasher tablets on your oven doors is the ultimate way of cleaning them.

By dipping a tablet in warm water, she breaks down the detergent in it and rubs the melting tablet all over the inside surface of her oven door. As the tablet starts to disintegrate, the stuck-on grease and oil build-up come off the glass. Now all that’s left to do is wipe the residue with a paper towel and some more warm water.

While she didn't use gloves, if you are ever going to try this at home you should wear a pair.

Shower screen

Speaking of glass doors, dishwasher tablets can also deal with hard-to-remove soap scum and hard water stains on your shower screens. So if you’re starting to notice your shower doors looking a bit foggy, it’s time to try out this hack.

Similar to cleaning oven doors, the process for this one goes the same. While wearing a pair of protective gloves, dip a dishwasher tablet in warm water and get to scrubbing. We recommend starting from the top to prevent wasting water and soap. After a good 10 to 15 minutes of scrubbing, give your shower screen a rinse and watch it return to like new.

Though, since the tablets are quite small, you may have to repeat the process again to take care of some spots you might have missed.

Burnt pots and pans

Dealing with burnt pots and pans is similar to cleaning air fryer drawers.

Simply soak your cookware in water mixed with a dishwasher tablet. We recommend using boiling water to speed up to process, though be careful not to burn yourself!

Since some pots and pans aren’t made with nonstick coating, the soaking process may take a few hours, but it’s best to just leave them on the sink overnight. The next day, just tip out the water, rinse, and wipe.

But if you neither have the time nor the patience, you can also try one other method. Soak your dishwasher tablet in warm water and rub it all over the burn marks. After a few minutes of good scrubbing, rinse off the residue and repeat the process until the cookware is thoroughly cleaned. Rinse, repeat, and wipe them all when finished.

Other people also recommended using dishwasher tablets in cleaning toilet bowls, especially the hard water stains that accumulate around them.

Do you know any other uses for the regular dishwasher tablet? Share them with us in the comments below!

EDIT: One of our readers wrote in and mentioned the importance of not leaving dishwasher tablets where children can get to them! They are caustic and will damage / burn the windpipe, so please be careful out there.

I've added this to the bottom of the original article, but one of our readers wrote in and mentioned the importance of not leaving dishwasher tablets where children can get to them! They are caustic and will damage / burn the windpipe, so please be careful out there.

I use them in my washing machine when it starts to get that funky smell. 4 dishwasher tablets in a hot wash, you'll be surprised at the gunk that comes out. Just give the tub a wipe with a damp cloth afterwards and voila!

I use them to clean oven racks. Just dissolve 1 tablet in hot water in sink, put oven rack/s in and leave to soak for a couple of hrs. Use a cloth to wipe clean. Has worked for me every time.
I do not hv a Dishwasher.
I have had pussycats.
I still have litter boxes, one of which is ideal which has been & still is ideal for soaking big weird shapes like Oven Racks, Baking Trays, assorted cutlery in tomato sauce, dish-wash tablets, electrik soda crystals.
Litter Trays are solid structures and should last "forever".
* Just buy a different colour to yr pussycat's real litter tray, and keep yr Soaking Tray in the garage or up high so it's never used by "mistake" by either of you!
