10 years and still going strong: People look forward to the return of Gogglebox Australia

The Australian television landscape has seen many shows come and go, but one that has stood the test of time is the beloved series, Gogglebox Australia.

For fans of the reality show, it's been a long experience filled with laughter, tears, and the shared love of television.

This year, the show is celebrating a remarkable milestone—a decade on air. That's right, Gogglebox Australia is back for its 10th consecutive year.

Foxtel announced the return of this smash-hit series, which will be back on screens on February 21.

This marks an impressive 10-year run for the reality program, a testament to its enduring popularity and the unique entertainment value it offers.

Gogglebox Australia, adapted from the British series of the same name, has a simple yet captivating premise.

It films a diverse group of Aussie households as they watch and comment on the week's popular television shows and films from the comfort of their own living rooms.

The result is a hilarious, honest, and often insightful commentary on contemporary television and culture.

Over the years, the show has introduced us to a host of memorable characters, each bringing their unique perspectives and humour to the screen.

Seasoned Gogglebox originals such as the cricket-mad Delpechitra Family, lovable grandparents Lee and Keith, Greek best friends Anastasia and Faye, and the tight-knit Dalton family have become household names.

Their candid reactions and witty banter have endeared them to viewers across the country.

The upcoming season will also see the return of newer additions to the Gogglebox family.

These include best mates and larrikins, Adam and Symon; food-loving siblings Tim and Leanne; avid surfers and best friends Milo and Nic; friends Kevin, Bob, Jared and Mia; Matty along with sons Malik and baby Lyon plus Uncle Jad; and the dynamic mother-daughter duo, Kerry and Izzy.

Sadly, last year saw the departure of the Silbery family matriarch, Grandma Emmie, due to a dementia diagnosis. However, a recent emotional reunion took place for Emmie and her reality show co-stars Keith and Lee Riley.

Gogglebox Australia's success is not just limited to its longevity.

Since its premiere a decade ago, the show has won an impressive six TV Week Logie Awards and has been nominated seven times at the AACTA Awards. It even scored a Factual Entertainment Program nomination at the 2024 AACTAs on February 10.

The show's popularity has also led to the creation of Celebrity Gogglebox Australia, a yearly one-episode special that gives awareness for ReachOut Australia.

Last year's line-up included radio stars Carrie Bickmore and Fifi Box, comedians Anne Edmonds and Lloyd Langford, The Great Australian Bake Off judge Darren Purchese and host Natalie Tran, and The Real Housewives of Sydney stars Krissy Marsh and Nicole O’Neil.

The whole cast was topped off by returning critics from a previous season: Dave ‘Hughesy’ Hughes with his wife Holly Ife and The Irwins—Terri, Bindi and Robert.

As we gear up for another season of Gogglebox Australia, we can't wait to see what our favourite couch critics have to say about the latest TV shows and films.

So, grab your popcorn, settle into your comfiest couch, and get ready for a new season of laughs, gasps, and good-natured banter.

Gogglebox Australia premieres at 7.30 pm on February 21 in Foxtel and will also be available On Demand. Don't miss out on the fun!

Not available on free-to-air television?
They show it free-to-air on Ch10 Thursday evenings usually 8.30 the day after Foxtel televises it. That is how I get to see it and I find it quite entertaining, but by the negative comments here seems I'm the only one 😮 oh well 😜

Good that people revere it,I for one would never watch it its a ridiculous programme. But then I dislike most reality shows

What is so entertaining about watching a show about people watching a show that no one really watches anyway. People forget that most of these people are told to beef things up to make it entertaining. Happy to say the closest I've seen the show is ads on the TV (that was enough to turn me off)

I do watch Master Chef, occasionally, but I LOVE, The Amazing Race, and Survivor. Both the Australian
and The American versions. I watched the first series of ALONE, and it was really good. I will watch the second series when it starts soon on SBS. I don't bother with the so-called Romance shows. The Adverts are enough to turn me off.

I only watched one episode until the first lot of ads once and had had enough!!!! COMPLETE BBBBBOOOORRRRRIIIIINNNNGGGGGGGGGGGG R-U-B-B-I-S-H!!!! How any one could find watching people watching tv and making stupid comments funny or entertaining is INSANE.
This tv trash has plagued the screens too long and should have ended before ten episodes NOT still going after 10 years.
No wonder the young ones go out getting into no good when the tv is filled with UTTER SHIT like this show and most of the rest - there's bloody freaking nothing much worth watching!!!!

There's far too much sport on tv - it should have its own dedicated channels (since they can allocate a complete channel for the biggest scam and BS going - religion)
Then there's too much news or should i say doom and gloom sessions on tv - less of those would be good.
then we get to the list of reality/game shows that needs to be annihilated from the screen - Gogglebox (all of them), Survivor (all), Masterchef (all), MKR, MAFS and ALL DATING SHOWS including Bachelor/Bachelorette etc., Big Brother, Gladiators, Tipping point (all), Pointless, Deal or No Deal (had enough of that ad with MR I'M EVERYWHERE DENYER that i don't want to watch the show), Housewives (ALL),Australian Idol, The Voice, The Block (It's gone shit 3 years or more back), Kings of Pain (utter recklessness that will teach the idiots of the country what they shouldn't do), the list goes on and on and on of the ROT.

More ROT is the 3 channels dedicated to home shopping that could be used for other things (as if they don't plague the ad breaks with the mini version of the half hour ads let alone hours of half hour ads overnight on the regular channels).

Where's the entertainment? Not on tv.

There are some good shows though - Aussie Salvage Squad, Towies, Graveyard Cars (when they put that one on), Ramsay, Gordon Gino & Fred (when they put it on again), Desert Collectors, Pawn Stars.

What they should bring back -
Wheel of Fortune
Millionaire hot seat
Hey Hey it's Saturday (IN the ORIGINAL FORMAT - screw the Politically correct sissy nanny state crap as to why they can't) (someone could fill in for the two cast they lost in the years since)
Don't forget the lyrics
Country music video clips played for a few hours one morning.
more shows with action in them.
Far less POM shows

Lol.😄 well I consider myself to be reasonably intelligent relljube, and I am sure you are too. Just because we find Gogglebox entertaining does make us mindless twits 😉 just open minded☺ I think if more people were they just may find they get a giggle out of it, and that's what important in life now, too much sadness in the World so a harmless show like that is there to entertain and put smile on your face. I was not sure at first but tuned it and it was fun and some of the cast are quite delightful. ☺
