Just ask a Logan City grandmother who, after playing the Oz Lotto quadruple for several years, has finally struck it lucky and taken out a $10 million prize.
The unnamed woman is now the proud owner of more money than she knows what to do with and used one of her late mother’s lucky numbers to pick out the winning ticket.
‘It feels like she’s been looking down on me and thought we needed a helping hand,’ she spoke of her late mother.
As a result of her remarkable win, this kind-hearted grandmother said that she’s ready to turn her newly found fortune around and use it to take care of her family, including her children and grandchildren.
‘The first thing I’ll do is make sure my husband retires. He’s worked so hard for so long, he really deserves it. Then I can make sure my children and grandchildren are set up for life,’ she said.
The woman’s winning ticket was purchased at Nextra Hyperdrome News in Loganholme, and store manager Karen Connell couldn’t be more pleased.
‘This is absolutely wonderful. We’ve had a couple of division one wins in the last year or two but nothing as big as this!’ she said.
Logan City is a buzzing metropolitan area that has seen an increase in population over the years, now standing at over 363,000 people according to official Australian figures.
Unfortunately, it has been plagued by high levels of unemployment, however, with the Aussie Bureau of Statistics recording the unemployment rate in September 2021 at 9.2 per cent and the most recent statistics from Queensland’s Treasury as of January 2023 sitting at 6.4 per cent – still much higher than the national average (currently 3.6 per cent).
Incidents of crime in the area have dropped by almost 12 per cent since 2012, and despite an increase of 2.6 per cent between 2021-2022, Logan still has some of the lowest incidents of crime Australia-wide.
It’s this combination of high population and erratic job prospects that make Oz Lotto so appealing to residents in the area.
Not just that, but with the recent $10 million prize placed firmly in the hands of this ever-lucky grandmother, who’s to say another big win could be just around the corner?
Recent figures from The Lott have indicated that there have been a total of 15 division one winning entries throughout this year, with lots of winners taking home a grand total of $303 million in prize money.
