📢 The Heartbreaking Scam of Eloise Parker in The Beekeeper (2024)

🚨 SCAM ALERT: How Fraudsters Steal Your Savings (And How to Stop Them!) 🚨

In The Beekeeper, a character named Eloise is tricked into losing her life savings through a tech support scam. Here’s how it happens—and how YOU can avoid it:

🔍 How the Scam Works:

  1. 📱 Fake Warning Message: Eloise gets a pop-up or call claiming her computer is “infected.”
  2. 👨💻 “Tech Support” Impersonation: Scammers pretend to be from “United Data Group” and say her antivirus is “outdated.”
  3. 😨 Fear Tactics: They warn her data will be deleted forever unless she acts now.
  4. 💻 Remote Access Trick: They make her download friendlyfriend.net—a fake tool that lets them control her computer.
  5. 💰 Bank Theft:
    • They “accidentally” transfer money (fake!) and ask her to “verify” it by logging into her bank.
    • Once she enters her password, they drain her accounts.

🛡️ How to Protect Yourself:

✅ NEVER trust unexpected calls/messages about computer issues. Real companies won’t contact you this way!
✅ 🚫 Never download software or give remote access to strangers.
✅ 📞 Verify first: Hang up and call the company’s official number (look it up yourself).
✅ 🔐 Use strong passwords + two-factor authentication on bank accounts.
✅ 👵 Tell your friends/family—scammers often target seniors!

🚨 If You’re Targeted:

  • ❌ HANG UP immediately.
  • 🏦 Call your bank if you shared any details.
  • 📢 Report the scam to Scamwatch Australia.
