“Never been so excited in my life!”, Brisbane mum takes home $225 worth of meat for just $11 from Coles

On a popular deals-and-discount Facebook group, one woman from Brisbane has shared how she managed to score $225 worth of meat for only $11.

“It finally happened to us!” wrote Nicola Caldwell on a Facebook post, alongside a photo of her amazing grocery haul from Coles.

She admitted that her timing could not have been better with her as her freezer was ‘almost completely empty’.

Nicola was only supposed to take a ‘quick’ look inside the Coles supermarket to check out their offers. When she checked out the meat section for any discounted deals, she was shocked to discover unbelievable markdowns on raw chickens and steaks.

The extremely lucky customer was able to nab a whole raw chicken for only 15 cents. Breast filets which usually cost around $16, were reduced to just 79 cents, and the $8 thigh cutlets were only 40 cents. To top it off, she also brought home packs of Australian beef for less than 10 cents and gourmet venison mince for a mere 45 cents.

“Couldn’t have come at a better time,” she said, adding that the $224.29 worth of meat they picked up only cost them $11.56 at the checkout.

Several members of the Facebook group congratulated the couple for their amazing score, with one saying that the haul looks like a really great Christmas gift from Coles.

“Well done, that’s a bargain for sure! Merry Christmas,” wrote one user.

“Great haul, I bet you couldn't contain your excitement,” said another.

One fellow bargain hunter asked Nicola: “Is there a certain time of day they usually do markdowns like these?” with her responding, “We were there between 7:30 to 8 pm.”

Another person asked: “Do you open the packs, mostly the chicken, before freezing?”

Nicola was happy to reply by saying they open the meat after purchase and individually wrap them in zip lock bags before freezing.

Woah, this was such a big markdown! She is one lucky shopper for sure! This grocery haul means Christmas and New Years is well and truly covered.

I too never score on that scale although I'm always on the lookout. If I get a dollar off I'm happy, two dollars and I'm ecstatic!!

@Thecheesequeen Fair point, although I do wonder if there are certain times/places that make finding these bargains more likely. Our Woolies used to have tons of stuff on special at a particular time of day like clockwork, but sadly this is no longer the case.

What an absolute bargain!! I do have a big freezer, so I'll often grab something extra when I see it on sale... but I've never been this lucky.!!
