“Favourite Christmas gift ever”, Mum makes daughter DIY apron made from her late dad’s favourite ties

This might just be the most heartfelt Christmas present you’ll see this year.

A grieving daughter found comfort in a handmade Christmas gift made by her mum: a DIY apron made from her father’s favourite neckties.

In an upcycling group on Facebook, Ashley Daniocek-Balsone shared a photo of her “favourite Christmas gift”, melting the hearts of thousands of Aussies missing their loved ones this holiday season.

“My dad passed away several years ago, and my mum made me an apron out of his Christmas ties. Probably my favourite Christmas gift ever,” wrote Ashley in the caption.

The apron was sewn together from seven different ties, each with a distinct red and green festive theme. The two ties on the upper part slip around the neck, and the two ties in the middle go around the back.

The post blew up in the Facebook group, gaining over 32,000 ‘loves’ from the members; many called it the most 'beautiful' idea they'd ever heard of.

“This is one of the most thoughtful upcycles ever! I love the idea and how it turned out. I'm so sorry for your loss, but what a precious thing to get this apron gifted,” said one woman.

“It is so perfect that I am almost stuck for words. I love meaningful gifts that are handcrafted with a lot of thought and love. It's absolutely gorgeous,” added another.

A third person wrote: “Aren't the best gifts always the ones that have had thought and time spent on them - rather than money?”

Some Facebook users also shared their own DIY presents, such as a stuffed toy made from patches of ties and coats and a wreath made of ties. Photos from Facebook / Upcycleit.

Others shared their own experiences of receiving and making handcrafted gifts after losing precious loved ones.

“My mum got gloves made for me out of a sweater I bought for my dad for my first Christmas without him two years ago,” shared one woman.

Another person who also lost their dad wrote: “I lost my father in 2019 and have all his ties which I just can't seem to part with. He wore a tie everywhere, even grocery shopping. So if you and your mum won’t mind, I'm going to make myself an apron like yours.”

All of these gifts are so thoughtful! Truly, the best gifts are the ones that come from the heart.

Love the additional uses of men's ties, and the Op Shops have oodles of them for sale. In 1970s, skirts, dresses, and vests were made frm men's ties were all the rage.
Love the sweet Teddy Bear❤
