‘You just killed Christmas’ – Is your favourite chocolate about to get axed from Aussie supermarkets too?
- Replies 4
We've all seen the bright stripes of a Celebrations box in most supermarkets in the lead-up to the holiday season.
However, there’s a certain chocolate bar that won't be making it to the well-loved variety boxes this Christmas.
Can you guess which one it is?
Chocolate lovers are up in arms over a recent decision by Mars Wrigley to axe its famous Bounty bar from its popular Celebrations box of chocolates in UK shops.
Yes, we can breathe a sigh of relief (for now). But could the humble Bounty be on its way out of Australian supermarkets soon too?
Everyone has their favourite chocolates that they look forward to finding in their Celebrations tubs, so the decision to stop including Bounty bars seems like a wrong move altogether.
This decision is part of a trial run in the lead-up to Christmas. Research from Mars suggested that only 38% of their consumers choose Bounty as their preferred bar.
So, some boxes of Celebrations will be missing minibars of Bounty chocolate this year. Instead, they will be replaced with extra bars of Mars, Snickers, Milky Way, Malteasers and Galaxy bars.
Emily Owen, the Spokeswoman for Celebrations said: ‘Christmas is the time for giving – but it seems this year, the British public are keen for us to take away…the Bounty.’ She added that the purpose of the trial is to see if shoppers are willing to get rid of Bounty bars from their tubs permanently.
‘Off the back of public demand, we’re trialling taking them out of tubs altogether.’
Emily added: ‘You don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone.’ Well, she’s not wrong.
Popular TV personality Piers Morgan took to Twitter to express his thoughts, and labelled this as a ‘diabolical decision’ made by Mars UK.
‘Bounty bars are the best chocolate in the world. Shame on you @MarsUK – you just killed Christmas,’ he said.
Others, however, gladly accepted this decision.
Former Premier League ace Darren Bent claimed that Bounty’s are ‘the worst flavour in the box’.
Chocoholics took to social media to express their feelings over this decision – and many of them have mixed emotions over it.
Someone said: ‘You must be a very sick person if you still want Bounty in the Celebrations box. Good riddance.’
‘A tub of Celebrations with no Bounty? Best news I’ve heard in a while,’ agreed another.
Meanwhile, an angry user said: ‘Good morning to everyone except the person who decided to remove Bountys from a tub of Celebrations.’
‘Bounty removed from Celebrations? There’ll be mutiny over that!’ Another upset user commented.
As of writing, there are currently no plans to remove Bounty Bars from Celebrations boxes in Australia, so there’s no need to start a riot…yet.
Just last week, European-owned confectionery Cadbury said that they will stop producing one of its popular sweet treats from Aussie supermarkets – and people weren’t too happy about it. You can read more about that here.
