‘We want to find them’: Couple’s fury after sickening attack on family dog

Discoveries in everyday life can sometimes take a dark and unsettling turn, leaving individuals questioning their safety and security.

For one family, what began as a routine day in their own backyard turned into a shocking and deeply troubling ordeal.

What they uncovered has sparked fears and outrage, prompting a closer look at the unexpected dangers lurking closer to home.

A couple from Scarisbrick, West Lancashire, were left horrified after discovering razor blades hidden in meat intended for their pet Cockapoo, Perdie.

Aidan Kaunhoven had taken Perdie into the garden on a Wednesday when he noticed her sniffing at something unusual that had been thrown over their fence.

Upon closer inspection, Mr Kaunhoven and his wife, Debbie, were shocked to find sharp razor blades embedded in the meat.

The quick-thinking train driver managed to stop their two-year-old pet from eating the dangerous food just in time.

Three weeks prior, Perdie had narrowly avoided consuming sausage meat filled with nails, which had also been tossed into their garden.

Mr Kaunhoven said: 'We were absolutely fuming. Luckily, we always go out with her and check what she's doing.

'I noticed she was sniffing something and I stopped her before she could eat any. It was meat that had razor blades inside.'

The couple suspects someone who dislikes animals has been targeting Perdie and watching their property.

Mr Kaunhoven added: 'A couple of weeks before, she was eating something in the garden and when we checked, we found hot dog meat with nails stuffed inside.

'She was eating one bit and luckily, she didn't get a nail.

'And just before Christmas, we found a bucket load of slug pellets mixed in with a sticky substance.

'We thought it was a fox at first and didn't think any more of it, but it was too much for an animal. It would have killed her.'

The couple, who describe Perdie as a quiet dog, cannot fathom why anyone would target their pet.

'We are really angry. Why target her? We haven't got any grievances,' Mr Kaunhoven said.

He believes the culprit is someone familiar with their schedule and the area.

He said: 'They know the area and they know our routine. They come when we're out and it looks like they've gone up our neighbour's driveway to throw it over.

'They know we have a dog in the back garden. There are a lot of dogs in the area, but they don't target anyone else.

'I think they just don't like animals, but why move to a rural area? We don't understand it.

'Perdie doesn't bark a lot and if she does, we stop her. There's no excuse for it.'

In response, the Kaunhovens have alerted their neighbours and requested any CCTV footage that might help identify the perpetrator.

Mr Kaunhoven said: 'My neighbours said that in the 30 years that they've lived here, nothing like this has ever happened.

'We're so annoyed because we want to find them and break their nose. What has Perdie ever done to anyone? It's creepy.

'We have to inspect the garden before she goes out and stay with her and we shouldn't have to do that.'

West Lancashire Police confirmed they were making enquiries into the incidents and urged anyone with information to contact them on 101, quoting log number 1028 of 8 January.
