‘This is smart’: Transform your wellness routine with this $20 Kmart dupe for $417 luxury product

In the quest for health and wellness, Aussies are always on the lookout for affordable ways to incorporate beneficial practices into their daily routines.

The latest buzz in the wellness community is about a $20 Kmart find shaking up the market, offering a budget-friendly alternative to a high-end wellness product that usually retails for a whopping $417.

This discovery has sparked wellness enthusiasts eager to try what's being hailed as a 'game changer'.

The product in question is Kmart's Inflatable Portable Ice Bath ($20), which has been compared to the much pricier Ice Bath Barrel ($417) by Vital+.

While the designer item might set you back a few hundred dollars, Kmart's version, originally priced at $39, is now available for $20.

Kmart's Inflatable Portable Ice Bath is a testament to the retailer's commitment to catering to the growing interest in at-home wellness products.

These products are not only designed to support recovery and health but also to provide an affordable and easy-to-use option for customers looking to incorporate cold therapy into their wellness routines.

Gracie Webb, owner of The Rituwell Club, a meditation and wellness event business, showcased the Kmart ice bath on social media, garnering over 200,000 views.

‘We ran an event at the beach recently with ice baths, and I wanted to keep doing them at home afterwards but couldn’t really afford an expensive one given the current cost of living,’ she said.

‘But you don’t have to miss out on ice baths just because you can’t buy a fancy one.’

Webb's innovative approach to maintaining her ice bath ritual without breaking the bank involved freezing water in takeaway containers instead of purchasing bags of ice, which she said ‘isn’t really financially sustainable in the long run’.

‘I use the ice bath every morning before work, and it does the job. It really sets my mind up for the day and makes me feel as though I’ve accomplished something before I’ve even gone to work,’ Webb said.

‘If I can get through that, I can get through anything.’

Her two-to-five-minute cold plunge not only provides mental clarity and energy but also serves as a meditative practice.

‘It also gives me mental clarity and energy throughout the day and is a great way to wake up without resorting to checking your phone or going on social media,’ she added.

‘If you’re looking for a budget-friendly ice bath to have at home, listen up,’ Ms Webb said in her clip while setting up the ice bath on her deck.

‘Kmart has these portable ones for $20. As cool as one of those fancy ice baths would be, this is such a good budget-friendly option as it does the same job and is so easy to set up.’

Commenters were impressed by the $20 Kmart find, with one saying, ‘I am absolutely influenced by this.’

‘This is smart,’ another said.

‘I’ve lived in a unit with no tub for 10 years and missed baths so badly. This is my favourite $20 I’ve ever spent,’ a third added.

Despite the positive reviews and creative hacks shared by satisfied customers, some sceptics have raised concerns about the effectiveness of the budget ice bath.

‘Nowhere near cold enough,’ one pointed out.

‘Buy a real one,’ added another user. ‘This is not going to work come summer.’

Cameron Mehr, founder of Vital+, cautioned that with ice baths, 'you get what you pay for.'

‘Retailers, like Kmart, offer basic, bare-bones versions of ice baths, often lacking essentials such as a cover, lid, and proper insulation—features that are crucial for maintaining cold temperatures for more than a single use,’ Mehr said.

‘Budget ice baths generally require users to add ice each time and aren’t insulated, meaning they can’t maintain a cold temperature between uses.’

Vital+'s Ice Bath Barrel, made with thick military-grade PVC fabric and a lockable lid for insulation, offers a premium experience, especially when paired with the brand's Chiller Unit.

This combination allows users to set their ideal temperature and eliminates the need for ice, potentially saving money over time.

David Altamura, co-founder of Wildsoul Wellness, highlighted the health benefits of cold plunging.

‘It can reduce inflammation, aid in recovery and aching muscles post-exercise, build immunity, and help the central nervous system,’ he said.

‘Ice bath therapy can be used at any time, but the most common practice is first thing in the morning to help with clarity, focus and energy. Post-workout, it is fine to do anytime.’

‘[Ice bath] is particularly evident in the increasing millennial market, which is looking to both nurture and balance their health and wellbeing,’ he added.

I wonder how many bags of Ice you would need for a standard size ice bath and how often they top them up.
I know some professional motorsport drivers use them to cool down after driving in very hot cars
