A food giant has finally confirmed what many Aussies have been waiting for: the arrival of its first-ever store Down Under.
With a cult following and a reputation for bold flavours, this chain is about to make its mark in Australia.
But how did we get here, and what can we expect from this highly anticipated launch?
Popular US-based chain Wingstop confirmed it would open its first Australian location in Sydney, marking the brand's long-awaited arrival Down Under.
First launched in Texas in 1994, Wingstop now boasts over 2000 venues across the United States.
Expanding internationally in recent years, the brand has opened stores in the UK, Singapore, Indonesia, Canada, and the UAE.
Now, the chain was poised to enter the Australian and New Zealand market, with Sydney's Kings Cross chosen for the inaugural venue.
Steve Kehl, Wingstop Australia's Country Manager, shared the excitement in an interview: ‘There’s never been a better time to bring Wingstop to Australia.’
He added: ‘The response so far has been phenomenal, Aussies are already buzzing about what’s coming. We’ve tapped into a massive appetite for bold, flavour-first food and an experience that’s anything but ordinary.’
Local Sydneysiders had already begun sharing the news after spotting a sign in the window of the soon-to-be Wingstop location, reading: ‘Flavour landing soon in Wings Cross’ in the signature green and white colours.
Reactions were mixed across social media, with some excited about the opening while others expressed frustration that Sydney was the first city chosen.
‘Perth will get it in the next 10 years,’ one person wrote.
Another questioned: ‘I don’t get it? Melbourne is Australia’s food capital.’
A third commenter added: ‘Should have been Brisbane or the Gold Coast.’
Food vlogger Nectro Vlangos, known for his reviews on social media, said he was confident Australians would flock to Wingstop, noting: ‘Who doesn’t love a good chicken wing? The reason people rave about Wingstop is the different variety of flavours and seasonings available.’
He continued: ‘My favourite is the lemon chicken, but there are 9 different flavours. They also have great dipping options too.’

Vlangos also acknowledged that Australians had grown up seeing US food chains on social media, TV, and movies, making the opening of international brands a huge draw.
‘I would definitely travel to Sydney from Melbourne to check it out once the crowds settle,’ he said.
Melbourne foodies Nick Vavitis and Ange Eats shared similar enthusiasm, both expressing their excitement at Wingstop’s arrival.
‘I love the idea of a dedicated wing bar that has staple flavours like their lemon pepper and for me their absolute best standard menu flavour the garlic Parmesan wing,’ Vavitis said.
‘When I went to America and tried it the wide range of flavour profiles, that is what stood out for me. Plus Wingstop’s limited edition flavours keep you coming back.’
Meanwhile, Ange made her commitment clear in a social media video, saying: ‘I will fly Melbourne to Sydney and wait in line for 4 days if I have to.’

Other social media users shared similar plans to travel interstate for the chance to try Wingstop, with one commenting, ‘Fine, I’ll move to Sydney then,’ and another saying, ‘So dammm excited. Time to fly from Brisbane.’
Despite the buzz, some Australians expressed frustration that Sydney was the sole location so far, with many willing to travel to get their hands on the famous wings.
The opening date for the Sydney venue was still unconfirmed, but Kehl hinted that the wait wouldn’t be too long.
‘We’re building something big here, and we can’t wait to share it with Australia very soon,’ he said.
This wasn’t the first time Wingstop had planned an Australian expansion.
Back in August 2017, the chain announced its intention to open a store in Brisbane, with 110 locations set to open across Australia and New Zealand over 10 years.
However, that plan never materialised due to a collaboration with John Bridgeman Limited that ultimately fell through.
With Wingstop finally arriving in Australia, are you excited to try their bold flavours, or do you think Sydney's the wrong spot for the first location?
