‘Profound wound that cuts deep’: What Deborra-Lee Furness said about her split from Hugh Jackman

A long-standing relationship has suddenly come under intense scrutiny, stirring up emotions and questions about what really happened behind closed doors.

What began as a quiet separation has now sparked surprising revelations and pointed remarks.

The latest developments have added a new layer of complexity to a story many thought they understood.

Deborra-Lee Furness finally broke her silence after filing for divorce from Hugh Jackman, two years following their unexpected separation.

The 69-year-old actress formally filed for divorce on 23 May, bringing an end to their 27-year marriage.

In a striking statement, Furness alluded to an act of ‘betrayal’ by the Wolverine star.

She shared: ‘My heart and compassion goes out to everyone who has traversed the traumatic journey of betrayal.’

‘It’s a profound wound that cuts deep, however, I believe in a higher power and that God/the universe, whatever you relate to as your guidance, is always working FOR us.’

Furness added that this belief helped her ‘navigate the breakdown of an almost three-decade marriage’ and that she ‘has gained much knowledge and wisdom through this experience.’

She explained: ‘Even when we are presented with apparent adversity, it is leading us to our greatest good, our true purpose.’

‘It can hurt, but in the long run, returning to yourself and living within your own integrity, values, and boundaries is liberation and freedom.’

Rumours have swirled that Jackman was unfaithful during their marriage, allegedly with his new partner Sutton Foster.

Despite her candid remarks, Furness said she ‘remains grateful’ for nearly 30 years with Jackman.

At the time of their split, the couple issued a joint statement confirming they had been ‘blessed to share almost 3 decades together as husband and wife.’

‘Our journey now is shifting, and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth,’ the statement read.

It was reported on 28 May that Furness and Jackman reached a financial settlement, with Furness reportedly ‘pleased’ with the outcome.

‘There was some back and forth regarding this financial agreement, but in the end, she got what she believed she deserved. Both are coming out of this financially secure,’ a source said.

Earlier this year, reports emerged that the pair faced difficulties dividing their estimated $250 million fortune after it was revealed they did not have a prenup.

Meanwhile, Jackman, 56, and Foster, 50, were recently seen leaving his New York apartment together, sparking speculation they had moved in.

Maybe she thought they would end up back together , then realised he was actually in a relationship so she decided to speak out.

After her posting that he cheated he then posted a video using a song titled Bye Bye 👋

30 years marriage is a long time. Maybe if he should have left the marriage before cheating. Gosh they put up false in love happy look

Yes, I agree he should have left. Celebrity marriages are often fickle.

Normal marriages are just as fickle. You don't have to be a celebrity to do the wrong thing. My ex has done the exact same thing after 28 years cheating and lying behind my back for several months with my former very good friend. I know exactly how Deborah feels. The betrayal is beyond hurtful. And it keeps going on but I am thankful he is mostly out if my life and one day when all the loose ends are tied up I will be in a much better place and never have to see or hear from him again. Looking forward.

I had the same thing happen after nearly 30 years together. The lies were unbelievable as he was not the sort of person to lie. It hurt but he has now passed away, 4 years I think. You just get on with your life.

Constantly praising and saying how much he loved his wife whilst betraying her ! No longer Mr Good Guy in our view !

Just another unfaithful husband.
You should talk to my second wife. Traipsing all over the countryside for dirty weekends, as far afield as Adelaide and Cairns.

The thing is she underestimated my powers of investigation. It killed at least four marriages, including my own. I informed one wife of a cheater of what was going on. Her husband was supposed to be on a "golfing weekend" with his mates.

He played one hole too many....

Why do people have to air their grievances for the world to see?
Sorry to hear their marriage ended. But just keep things private 🫢
Kind regards Vicki
