The loss of prominent figures can leave a lasting impact, whether in politics or entertainment.
Two recent passings have sparked reflection.
One involving a former MP whose career ended in controversy, and another remembering an actress known for a beloved TV role.
Former Western Australia Labor MP Barry Urban passed away in hospital, three months after an alleged attack at a Kelmscott business.
WA Premier Roger Cook confirmed his death on Sunday.
‘Barry was the subject of a dreadfully violent attack in the workplace and has been fighting for his life ever since,’ Cook said.
‘Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries and police are now obviously reviewing the charges in relation to that incident.’
‘My heart just goes out to his family and friends today, he lost his life in a very violent incident.’
Urban suffered serious head injuries during the alleged attack in November.
He was elected as a member for Darling Range in March 2017 but resigned in May 2018 following a scandal over false credentials.
A parliamentary inquiry found he had repeatedly lied about his education and professional background.
When leaving parliament, Urban acknowledged his actions, saying: ‘This is a situation I regret and it will haunt me for the rest of my life.’
In 2021, he was sentenced to three years in jail after pleading guilty to multiple offences, including knowingly giving false evidence before parliament.
He was released in 2023 after serving 18 months.

Urban’s passing follows a recent loss in the entertainment industry, with British actress Maya Woolfe also being remembered for her contributions to television.
British actress Maya Woolfe, best known for her role in Auf Wiedersehen, Pet, has died at the age of 72.
Her passing was announced on social media by the show's official accounts.
‘With sadness we announce the passing of Maya Woolfe who played Uli in Auf Wiedersehen, Pet Series 1, Episode 11, 'The Lovers',’ the statement read.
‘Maya’s many TV appearances included The Professionals, Bergerac, and Doctor Who. We send our deepest sympathy to family and friends at this difficult time.’
Woolfe was especially remembered for her role in Auf Wiedersehen, Pet, a comedy-drama about seven British construction workers who leave the UK in search of work abroad.
In the January 1984 episode ‘The Lovers’, her character Uli mistakes Oz Osborne, played by Jimmy Nail, for the son of a wealthy tycoon.
During a dinner date, Uli questions him about taking over his father’s supposed ‘business empire’ and asks: ‘In the meantime you are just one of the boys?’
Oz famously responds: ‘Look again, pet. One of the men.’

Woolfe’s television career included roles in Doctor Who, The Detectives, Wilde Alliance, The Professionals, Tenko, Bergerac, Triangle, Lief zijn voor elkaar, The Black Magic Man, C.A.T.S. Eyes, and Dutch Cops.
