Former Western Australia Labor MP Barry Urban passed away in hospital, three months after an alleged attack at a Kelmscott business.
WA Premier Roger Cook confirmed his death on Sunday.
‘Barry was the subject of a dreadfully violent attack in the workplace and has been fighting for his life ever since,’ Cook said.
‘Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries and police are now obviously reviewing the charges in relation to that incident.’
‘My heart just goes out to his family and friends today, he lost his life in a very violent incident.’
Urban suffered serious head injuries during the alleged attack in November.
He was elected as a member for Darling Range in March 2017 but resigned in May 2018 following a scandal over false credentials.
A parliamentary inquiry found he had repeatedly lied about his education and professional background.
When leaving parliament, Urban acknowledged his actions, saying: ‘This is a situation I regret and it will haunt me for the rest of my life.’
In 2021, he was sentenced to three years in jail after pleading guilty to multiple offences, including knowingly giving false evidence before parliament.
He was released in 2023 after serving 18 months.

During a dinner date, Uli questions him about taking over his father’s supposed ‘business empire’ and asks: ‘In the meantime you are just one of the boys?’
Oz famously responds: ‘Look again, pet. One of the men.’
